History Lesson: Lost Continent 101 Much of the continent's history, is still shrouded in mystery. The only known recorded word goes back no more than 100 years or so, when an age of colonial exploration, led to exploration ships landing upon the eastern and southern shores. Rough seas and rocky terrain prevented landing upon the north and west coasts.
While areas have long since been politically carved, by those who laid claim, ruins of long lost civilizations and artificially made boundaries, litter the entire land mass. Scholars who've been lucky enough to study the ruins and recovered artifacts of this land, conclude that at one time, its entire inhabitants were likely druids, though ones that consorted with an unidentified sort of magic. Their race is inconclusive, as corpses and/or skeletal remains of the actual inhabitants, have still, never been found.
The ecosystems of the land's wilds hold some new variations of species, though for the most part, are nothing out of the ordinary, found about the world. It is worth noting though, that while the rule of land has been carved among a few political powers, there are still vast quantities of unexplored lands, both above, and below the surface.
The kingdom of Cathaan, with it's capital city of the same name, is the only human political power, and while not possessing the largest territory, they do possess the most bountiful, and choice access to favorable docking areas. Their borders are completely open, though only very recently, as racially spurred untrust for all things magic had led to decades of potential war and isolationism; which not only shut out neighboring peoples, but shut the continent off from the rest of the world.
However, with its borders now wide open and accepting (at least more accepting than its peoples), trade and tourism is now booming and becoming common place, with potential of spread to the rest of the continent. What awaits YOU, on the Lost Continent of Theviranne?
Campaign Guidance: This will be more of an RP-orientated, character interaction driven with 4 to 5 players. I tend to allow characters to 'free-roam' as their motivations may drive.

Hi, I'd be interested in exploring the world you've created, so here's my application:
Name: Delanra Race | Class: Yuan-Ti | Sorcerer Background: Noble Alignment: True Neutral Backstory: this is my standard short version , which I can tailor to the storyline you have started above
Delanra was raised by her caste to be a spy, to go amongst the human realms and sow discord. Serving in a noble house for years, she rose to a position where she finally had influence over the ruling lord. Her machinations and scheming were prolific, and initially very subtle. As her plans became more and more widespread, she found those who opposed her also grew in numbers and capability. Thus it was, that one terrible day, Delanra was out-manoeuvred in the game of politics, and a strange feeling welled up inside of her. Feelings are a far-removed concept and from the pit of her stomach, Delanra knew that she would not allow herself to be bested, as she slammed her fist down on the table, the minor functionary the had brought her the news flew backwards as a small globe of flame flew from Delanra straight into the man's chest.
Momentarily taken aback, Delanra watched the man burn whilst trying to understand what had just happened. She had performed magic... Not the serpent kin-folk variety that all of her race seemed endowed with but the conjuration of fire that had sent a man sprawling back with force, and power... Power that could be hers to bend to her will if she learned to control it. Delanra disappeared from public site, shifting all her endeavours to learn more about her ability. Soon she realised that the noble trappings no longer held her desire, her scheming only the slightest entertainment, and the answers to her query were not to be found within the lands of her lord. Thus Delanra abandoned the position she had crafted, the role she had been expected to fulfil by her caste, and sought answers for her own selfish ends...
Ethan has found it easier to travel when those who find out about his ancestry get uncomfortable, or, as is often the case, hostile. He just had such an experience in the city he was working for as a guard and soldier, so accepted his last pay purse and decided it was time to head to somewhere new. Boarding a ship at random, that was going somewhere he had not been yet, and not overly caring where that destination was, he headed out.
Name: Cromwell Race | Class: Human (variant) | Sorcerer (wild magic) Background: Haunted One Alignment: Neutral Backstory: Cromwell was born a peasant with no last name. He and his family tilled the land they lived on and eked by on what little they have. One day a stranger happened upon their small village and spent the night. Cromwell was woken in the middle of the night to flames spreading throughout his cottage. Without thinking, power sprung forth from Cromwell and some of the fires died down. He did his best, but much of the village was destroyed. Cromwell did learn that the stranger had escaped unscathed. Blaming the unknown man, Cromwell set out to find him and try to understand his new powers... and what he saw in the flames that night.
Name: Perrin Silverfrond Race | Class: Wood Elf / Druid Background: Sage Alignment: Lawful Neutral Backstory: (include why you have come to this new land) (Additionally i'm willing to work with one or potentially two who want to be from the continent itself, just pm me first to discuss):
Perrin had spent many lifetimes cloistered away in the great libraries of the Realm, cataloging every bit of information about the natural world his fellows brought to him. Unfortunately, all that time away from the natural world had left him feeling disconnected from the plants and wildlife he loved so much. When an opportunity came for a druid from his circle to travel to Thevirrane to study the continent's ecosystem, Perrin leapt at the chance. Arriving in the capital of Cathaan, the druid is excited to live civilization behind and once more dwell within the natural world he loves so much.
Name: Tristyn Daniels Race | Class: Half-Elf Ranger Background: Folk Hero Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory: Tristyn is well known in his village for mostly keeping to himself, but always willing to lend a helping hand. Known for being one of the best hunters in the village, Tristyn would often venture out into woods alone for days at a time, only to return fully loaded down with meat. With the woods and local wildlife giving him nothing else to discover, Tristyn began feeling the call to explore.
When the news of people traveling to Thevirrane reached Tristyn's village, he knew it was time to explore new lands. Tristyn hunted and sold meat untill he was able to save up enough gold to buy passage to Thevirrane.
I am new to the game and would really enjoy joining everyone on an adventure.
Kiera Marr is a young scion of one of the oldest noble houses, the House of Gyrleone, well known for its service to Silvercrest as griffon breeders, trainers, and riders. Many of the members of the House have served in the griffon cavalry that are a familiar sight in the skies over the city of Silvercrest. Kiera however, has spent much of her youth brawling in local taverns and festhalls, spending what pittance she gets as a stipend from the House as a descendant of her great-grandmother, Kerryn Marr, a black sheep who married out of the family name to a lesser house.
The rift that separated the House Marr from House Gyrleone was "healed" when it was revealed that Lord Huld Gyrleone had been slain and his brain consumed by a greater doppelganger. His place as patriarch was assumed by the shapeshifter and much of what he had done since that time was to the detriment of the House. The death of the doppelganger left House Gyrleone devoid of a line of succession since Lord Huld had sired no children before his death. Magistrates from Silvercrest were sent to Teskyr, where Kiera and her parents and siblings lived, after it was determined that the descendants of Kerryn were to be awarded ownership of the land and holdings left behind by Lord Huld.
Kiera's father, Viktor Marr, son of Alura Marr (grandmother) and Talos Ilmara (grandfather), has assumed leadership of the house and taken the Gyrleone name as his own. Kiera has remained defiant and favors the name of her grandmother, preferring to avoid recognition as a Gyrleone as she travels across the sea to the kingdom of Cathaan.
Backstory: Deep in the forest, Anearis' tribe lived a life in harmony with the land. Their survival depended on traditions older than anyone can remember. These traditions had enabled certain members of his tribe to channel the elements of the land themselves. It was a rare gift, but Anearis was born with this ability. As tradition dictated it, he was trained to fight and defend the tribe using his connection. However, as time passed, a disease seemed to have taken hold of the land. His tribemate seemed to lose their vital connection to nature. His people's survival was in jeopardy. This disease threatened to destroy the people he was supposed to defend.
Anearis could no longer stand by and watch his people wither away. He decided to set out and find a way to cure the land and save his tribe. For the first time, he would step into unknown lands. But this mission could not fail. During his investigation, he learned that scholars had uncovered ancient druidic magic on the lost continent of Theviranne. This lead was perhaps what he needed to save his tribe from oblivion. So, he decided to board a ship to the kingdom of Cathaan in hope of finding a cure in the cure he hopes exist.
(I'm open to rework the concept if you feel like it's needed. Or, I have other ideas to propose if this one isn't to your liking)
Backstory: Uthal was a strong and well liked member of the clan but one day the clan leaders told of omens that he would bring about the ruin of the clan. The clan drove him out into the wild, expecting him to die but his stubborn will prevented this. He stumbled through the mountains, barely alive, until a cleric found him. the cleric took pity on the suffering goliath and brought him back to his temple. Uthal was grateful to the cleric and while he did not understand the compassion he was taught about the gods and came to understand that they were perserving him for something greater.

Name: Turdirith Race: Half-Elf Class: Paladin Background: Acolyte Alignment: Chaotic Good Backstory: Turdirith was born in an unnamed evil cult worshipping the chaotic evil deity Cyric. He had a very wealthy upbringing, with good education and training. But unfortunately Turdirith is not very smart. Because of this, and the manipulation of his elders, he believes that Cyric is actually a good deity. When he reached the age of 24, Turdirith was "asked" by his elders to spread the Word of Cyric to anyone who is not yet a believer.

She knew everything there was to know about fighting wars, she trained and trained, and fought a couple wars. Backstory/Background: Kronk is an abomination, there is no other word for it. It seems a rather insane Necromancer was experimenting with mashing together different corpses and body parts. In one experiment, his last, unfortunately for him (or maybe not), he was working with the corpse of an halfling and a corpse of an ogre. Need less to say he was working 'discretely,' for fear of persecution you see, out in a very secluded wood. As it happened a thunder and lightening storm sprang up out of nowhere, putting him into a pretty foul mood; but the upshot was dramatic to say the least. Just as he cast the final parts of the spell he was struck by one fork of a bolt of lightening, the other one struck the halfling/ogre mess he was working on. It appears to have killed the necromancer but at the same time transferred his life force into the mess he was ensorcelling, causing it to animate into the being that calls itself Kronk. By-the-by, for some reason unknown to himself, Kronk HATES necromancers. He has no memory of what happened, just remembers coming to in a storm next to a rather crispy corpse and the brutal struggle to find a place in the world that followed.
Kronk is not the brightest rock in the box but he is dependable and loyal to his companions.
Backstory: "KEEP YER EYES PEELED THERE'S SOMETHING LURKIN IN THE BUSHES".. Eyes-Peeled. This is usually how the young Kenku introduces himself. Eyes-peeled grew up in the outskirts of a town near the deep forest beyond and survived on a mix of stealing bread in town and robbing the bandits that camped out in the forest. Merely getting by is hard when you grow up on the street, but with no voice of your own you really are much better off with a friend. He learned so much from this very friend. She was half-elven and acted as an older sister to the feathered urchin. She taught him to beg, to scavenge through both the woods and the trash, to stay out of sight from those less understanding of their situation and how to steal when necessary. ONLY when necessary. Having nothing was hard, but having no-one is harder.
Eyes-Peeled and the half-elf lived together in a small shack on the city outskirts for a good five years, until everything changed. One time, as the younglings were going through a particularly rough patch they had to steal from the bandits again. Everything was going great until the half-elf got discovered, Eyes-Peeled was just about to turn and help when he saw her mouth the word "Run" towards him in the bush that he was hiding in. He considered helping, but he just couldn't he was too afraid. So he ran. Ashamed. Running until he came to port. He hid on a ship. A stowaway. Unbeknownst to him he was on his way to foreign lands. He ran from nothing towards something.
Name: Valenar "Reclaim" Bright-blaze Race | Class: Tiefling | Hexblade Warlock Background: Archeologist Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory: Reclaim was raised by his adoptive fire genasi father Kalec and water genasi mother Erenia, after having been found abandoned as a baby by his mother under a bridge. They not blessed with children themselves, having good natured souls and knowing the hardship of being of unusual race themselves. Over the years Reclaim took great interest and passion in his father's profession of historical study and exploration and eventually began training with him, though he did not present the self control or dextrous monkish nature his father had. When his parents were graced with twin daughters Reclaim began going out on more of the dangerous excursions as his father was getting on in years and did not wish his sisters, who loved more dearly than anything, the pain of growing without a father. After a time he became contracted to a local library and historium as a researcher and reclaimed of ancient knowledge and relics long lost for protection and study, and unfortunately for him falling head over heels for the half-elven liaison Aschlyn Terinthar sharing many many similar interests and views and becoming best friends while refusing to tell her how he felt in fear of rejection and loss of her friendship but more so the thought of hardship that could come to one being with one of his race. His last expedition before venturing to the Lost Continent being ruins of primordial nature where after many traps, and the lost of half of one of his horns, he found himself among a treasure vault only containing a single ornate weapon. Upon holding it it shattered and became dust infusing itself with his being and granting him abilities of magic he never before had. When he returned home and learned from Aschlyn of expeditions to the Lost Continent he was ecstatic rushing around gathering things and packing, making the journey knowing of the multitudes of lost civilizations and ruins just waiting to be discovered and studied and swearing he would make the biggest finds out of anyone sent.
NB: I was planning on taking advantage of the gender fluidity of the elven race and have Atalura be able to and maybe prone to switch genders after a long rest, or maybe just be androgynous, but I kept defaulting to one standard pronoun or the other while writing up a background, so I'm going with "her" for now. If this is a problem and you need a single gender, I'll nail it down to female.
Also, since I don't have access to all the source books, I homebrewed the SCAG cantrip "Booming Blade" - it's the exact same spell. If this is a problem, let me know and I'll switch it out for something in the free-access SRD list.
Race | Class: High Elf Rogue Background: Urchin Alignment: Chaotic Good Backstory: Atalura doesn't know who her parents were; she was raised on the streets of Spandeliyon, quite possibly the most xenophobic city on the Archipelago of Altumbel. The elven quotent there was as non-existent as the forests in the area. The only way she could find to explain her presence there was that perhaps her parents had been kidnapped by pirates -for most people there were sea-faring - and had died an unfortunate death, leaving her behind. Maybe whoever had tossed her to the streets had known how long-lived elven children were; maybe not. Either way, life was hard, fast, and rough for a street urchin child - particularly one that lived to be over a century old.
Maybe that was why Atalura‘s Trance - or childhood, as the humans called it - lasted for so long. It was a constant source of comfort during those hard times, the memory of being a primal spirit of the world, of being happy, and powerful, and free. Of walking alongside the gods themselves in the feywild - a stark contrast to the hunger and danger of the dirty human streets of her reality. She knew change was coming, however, when those idyllic memories started to fade... at first slowly, and then more and more rapidly, until at what she guessed might have been around her 100th birthday, she could only recall a sense of loss for the life she'd never had.
Trancing became much more unpleasant after that; Atalura had precious little to recall that truly brought her joy. But with adulthood came also the realization that she wasn't bound to Spandeliyon or its prejudices; she had already easily outlived most of her human friends, and there was nothing to hold her back from finding a new way, and a new home in a place more accepting to elvenkind.
They say no matter how hard one tries to break away from their roots, though, that they always come back to haunt you. Atalura found this to be painfully true as she was drawn inexorably towards the continent of Theviranne; Cathaan, the one kingdom she knew of there, had a reputation that was little better than her hometown. The mystery surrounding the lost civilizations there tugged at her own lost memories, though - were they once the hosts of her soul's previous, happy life? Did they hold the secrets to recovering those childhood memories she had lost? She felt driven to find out, and with nothing more to hold her back, she shed the last vestiges of her elven childhood and set out into the world as an adult adventurer, seeking answers to questions that she could only guess at from her nebulous memories.

Kronk ddb.ac/characters/21602757/0edgoW
Race: See Backstory but for game purposes Half-Orc
Class Fighter
Align.: CN
S 18 D 11 C 13 I 9 W 9 Ch 6
Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Name: "Eyes-peeled"Race: KenkuClass: RogueAlignment: CGBackground: UrchinBackstory:"KEEP YER EYES PEELED THERE'S SOMETHING LURKIN IN THE BUSHES".. Having nothing was hard, but having no-one is harder.Eyes-Peeled and the half-elf lived together in a small shack on the city outskirts for a good five years, until everything changed. He ran from nothing towards something.Character link: https://ddb.ac/characters/21568163/HkLGaeBlixanix Glitterpain, Goblin Bard - In campaign: Ravnica, City of GuildsThe Soggiest DM - In campaign: Boats, Rocks & RuffiansEira Whitefeather, Human Sorcerer/Warlock - In campaign: Death Inspectors ExpandedRoland "THUNDER HIPPO" Wolfscribe, Human Bloodhunter - In campaign: Core City: A Play-by-post Adventure
Name: Valenar "Reclaim" Bright-blaze
Race | Class: Tiefling | Hexblade Warlock
Background: Archeologist
Alignment: Neutral Good
Backstory: Reclaim was raised by his adoptive fire genasi father Kalec and water genasi mother Erenia, after having been found abandoned as a baby by his mother under a bridge.

Name: Atalura
Race | Class: High Elf Rogue
Background: Urchin
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Backstory: Atalura doesn't know who her parents were; she was raised on the streets of Spandeliyon, quite possibly the most xenophobic city on the Archipelago of Altumbel.
OMG, 16 people are interested in playing, I wonder whom will make it...
