The great Panther King has died and he has left his kingdom, Mabruanda, unguarded. However, there must be a king to protect the kingdom from the threat of enemies. There must be a new Panther King. The next Panther King is to be chosen through a trial, a trial that had existed since the dawn of Mabruanda's civilization. The trial takes place in the great temple of Ubaste, the great panther goddess. Many who dare enter have been driven mad or died in ages past. However, there that has done nothing to deter many brave souls who believe that they could be the next Panther King. The Panther King is both leader and guardian of Mabraunda and as is tradition, there must be another who is chosen by Ubaste herself.
Rules:
All players will start with a level three character.
All characters must have an affinity to the Panther otherwise the elders would not permit you to enter the temple. In other words, link the idea of panthers to your character, for example, you could reskin a Tabaxi or Leonin to look like a panther, you could serve Ubaste as a cleric, or have Ubaste as a patron as a warlock (celestial). Hopefully, that gives you some ideas.
You will enter into the temple and will end up in a random location. There might be someone else in that location already, or you might be by yourself.
There can be only one winner, therefore characters are free to fight each other.
You will find that all your equipment is gone as soon as you enter into the temple. However, there will plenty of opportunity to find equipment in the temple. You will not have a backpack, to begin with, but encumbrance is on.
Expect to encounter traps, puzzles, and creature to fight or avoid in the temple.
Ubaste's divine powers will also cause a level of havoc when attempting to cast spells. They might also draw unwanted attention.
You will need food and drink to survive, and you will have to find that in the temple.
Your character may very well die in the temple.
Progression will be XP based. XP and other benefits will be granted to you for defeating enemies, solving puzzles and surviving traps.

(This sounds like a tribute for the passing of Chadwick Boseman-R.I.P......I'm down)
Name: Valor Race: Shifter-Longfang Class: Monk 2/Sorcerer-Divine Soul 1 Alignment: Chaotic Good Background: Athlete Backstory: Valor comes from a race of cat form Shifters. He grew up within the tribe competing in tribal sports and became a sports hero among his people. It took 2 years but, at the gathering of the Shifter Tribes, a festival to celebrate Shifters and to compete in sporting events and the like, that Valor gained renown among all the Shifter Tribes when during a one competition Valor's "Holy" powers surfaced. It was a team competition and Valor was Captain, a form of "Capture the Flag" but more violent. In the midst of the conflict Valor's hand glowed, taking on the form of a translucent cat's claw and he raked one opponent with it (Arcane Fist). A second time his hand glowed and he raked an opponent at a distance leaving 3 claw marks (Magic Missile). The crowd was at first shocked then they erupted with cheers, Valor had been shown to be a "Child of Ubaste", confirming a legend among the Shifters that each clan was descended from the Beast Gods themselves. The priests however doubted and needed to be sure. Valor has been sent to the Great Temple of Ubaste to either prove his origin or die, returning his soul and power to Ubaste.
Yeah, this is done in tribute Chadwich Boseman. However, I did not want to just steal from Marvel, and I don't know how that would be received on here. So this is a D&D campaign inspired by it.

Interesting game, would love to play. My character idea so far: panther-like Leonin, Battle Master Fighter with Unarmed fighting style from Class Feature Variants UA, and I think Noble background.
You didn't tell what you want from an application, or how to determine stats (personally, I think rolling would be unfair in a pvp game), so do let me know if you want something more.
This sounds great. I’m thinking a character based on Shuri as she took over in comics. Probably a human artificer armorer sub class. Work out the details in morning.
Name: Yeldor Race: Bugbear Class: Barbarian 3 - Totem Warrior (panther) Alignment: Chaotic Good Background: Acolyte Backstory: Yeldor hails from a tribe of border guardians at the edge of the kingdom. Having trained in the barbarian ways to defend the kingdom, he also served as an alter attendant in the tribe's temple to Ubaste since he was a child. It was again Yeldor's turn to serve and as he brought the offering forward, he saw a black panther in the center of the alter - he approached, knelt down, and offered his hand in submission. The panther walked forward, sniffed his hand, looked him in the eye, and let out a deafening roar. When he awoke, his fur had changed to a dark jaguar pattern and he was wearing a panther totem - the blessing of Ubaste: Yeldor had found his calling, he had found his path.
Alright, put some thought into...thinking swift stride shifter rogue. Assassin subclass... going to be the from a tribe similar to the wardogs in the mcu...infiltration, observation, elimination. Probably not the most reputable and not who the people want to be the next king, but he has the right to submit to the trial.
Will get a character sheet up tomorrow.

“The secret we should never let the gamemasters know is that they don't need any rules.” ― Gary Gygax
Name: Dofando Bandor Race: Swiftstride Shifter Class: Rogue 3 Backstory: Dofando is a member of a tribe of warriors that are regularly sent out of Mabruanda to protect and represent the countries ideals in the wider world. These assignments require a wide array of skills including diplomacy, courtier-services, infiltration, intelligence gathering, threat elimination, theft, retrieval, kidnapping, etc. The Shadow-Claws do what they are called upon to do without hesitation or remorse, for they know they act for the betterment of Mabruanda, and by extension the betterment of the wide world.
Dofando was recently called back to the homeland for debriefing, and while within the borders of the country the word went out that the king had fallen. As one of the few Shadow-Claws available to walk the trial he is obligated to represent his clan, though he personally believes he enjoys the front-line wetwork of his job far too much to be elevated to royalty. Still, he will do his best, and others that stand in his way will come to respect the power that the Shadow-Claws wield in the wider world on behalf of Mabruanda.
A child gifted with the feral nature of panther from birth, Dofando was quickly adopted into the Shadow-Claws when his parents found they had difficulty containing the child. His studies in their secrative dojos covered infiltration tactics, poisoning, disguise, acting and any other skill that might come in handy when facing threats and creating them outside of the country. He particularly took too excercises that focused on his speed and stealth.
Character sheet going to GM in a PM.

Orin came the Temple to be a guardian of the Panther King, but just before his arival the King died. Now there is no King to guard, but what greater glorry could there be then to guard the whole nation as the next Panther King...
ame: Rac Race: Human Class: Blood Hunter Lycan Alignment: Chaotic Good Background: Urban Bounty Hunter Backstory: A Bounty Hunter who hunted men for money no questions asks, until one fateful day when he chased a man and slew him....a man who was a servant of Ubaste and an innocent. Since that time he has been cursed with Lycanthropy, changing into a panther... which he can't always control...
Backstory: Aniborus was originally carved as a statue of a panther by a sect of priests that had branched off from the mainstream worship of the Panther God. Over many years, sacrifices to the Panther God were made at the feet of this statue and it absorbed some of each one's life energy. Eventually, this brought Aniborus to life.
Aniborus quickly grew distrustful of this sect of priests and fled, taking a humanoid form to better hide his nature. For years, he hid in the capitol city of Mabruanda, using natural stealthy abilities to get by.
Recently, Aniborus found that he is still able to take on this panther form due to a continued connection to the nation of Mabruanda and the Panther God. Perhaps, if he can win the trial, he will finally be able to understand the god for whom he was originally created.
Tabaxi barbarian - chose Tiger totem but will play as panther totem for flavour
Ushala feels the call of the great spirit within. He opens his eyes and rises from the earth to greet the new day. The spirit calls and he must answer with tooth and claw. He feels the rage churn within, not a thing of anger but a thing of pure battle lust, a thing of blood and bright metal, a call to violence and power. Arching his back he roars and the newborn sun in defiance, digging his claws deep into the earth. Ubaste awaits him and beyond its holy gates the glory of battle.

Standard array would be the easiest and fairest.
