Thank you all who submitted character applications. I am no longer taking character applications. I will announce which characters are in the campaign on Sunday afternoon PST.
Hello there!
I am Viscount Chimera. I have been playing DnD for over 10 years and have been DMing for 5 years. I am recruiting for my first PbP homebrew campaign which is called Rise of the Shadow King.
Forgotten for centuries, the continent of Cyndlith was only rediscovered 35 years ago. Covered in ancient ruins and wildlands, the large natural expanses hide unknown secrets of lost civilizations and cultures. Magic is plentiful, powerful, and given by the gods, who are omnipresent and involved in the world's occurrences. Infant nations are fiercely battling for monopoly over the continent, and racial tensions between 'exotic' and 'non-exotic' races have never been higher. But a darker threat is brewing. Strange things start to happen across the continent as an old cult begins to gain prominence. An ancient evil is awakened, and it could spell the downfall of the world and all who dwell on it.
I am looking for 3-6 players for this campaign. In order to apply for the campaign, please PM me (don't post it in this thread please) using the following format:
Character Name: Race: Class: Backstory:
Please include a link to your character sheet. All characters start at level 3. You can use standard array or point buy for attribute scores. I allow all races and classes. If you have any homebrew races or classes that you want to play, please include that and I will consider allowing it. I allow multi-classing. If you are accepted into the campaign, please be ready to work with me to tailor your character's backstory to the homebrew setting the campaign is set in. Also, when the campaign starts it will be assumed that none of the players know each other, so if you want your character to have a pre-existing relationship with one of the other characters please arrange that and PM me about it. I plan to take applications for 3-5 days, depending on how many I receive.
I plan to post 1-3 times on a normal day. If you get accepted into the campaign you should try to post at least once a day but I understand that isn't always possible.
The campaign is divided into chapters. Each chapter will contain about 3-4 adventures and will usually center around a specific theme or location. All the characters will level up at the end of every other chapter (example: characters level up in chapters 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.) This campaign will take characters from level 3 to level 18, and multiple chapters will take place while the characters are level 17 and 18. I'd estimate that there are about 45-50 chapters in the campaign.
At the beginning of an encounter, I will roll initiative for each player and enemy and then display the order. This should make combat more efficient. I will also keep people informed as to whose turn it is and who is up next in the initiative order. If you don't post for over 24 hours or so, we will probably just skip your combat turn for that round, and you can make up for it later. If you know you won't be able to post when it is your turn, you can post what you wish to do when it is your turn.
(I'll add more to this section when it becomes relevant)
Character name; Florence Race; Mountain Dwarf Class; Bard (College of lore) Backstory; Florence came from eagle point mountain from a small dwarf town called Sheeran (On the outskirts of Cyndlith) she had natural gifts in the arts whether it was painting or music, she was renowned in her village for drawing lore, mythology and great conquests, she’d preform daily and act out great battles for all to see. However she wanted more out of life and she wanted fame and glory, which is why she left the town of Sheeran and started to go on tour and sure enough she picked a field in the arts she loved most and became a renowned singer and player of many instruments, she enjoyed this life and she was soon hired for royal events; she hopes for more out of life and looks for inspiration in adventure for new songs and acts. Especially as her family sent her a warning by raven, saying that something dark is stirring and that nature is not happy, that something dark and evil could very well of been awakened and this is why she seeks to join a group as fast as possible to help her family battle this darkness and hopefully have an adventure or two to sing about. Character sheet; https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/BriennetheBarbarian/characters/37115187
It was supposed to be an ordinary ship ride. You all had your own reasons for traveling to Mercasi. Some of you were there on business or to visit family, or to catch another ship ride up the Dentarian Coast. Some of you may have just wished to get away from the farming town of Selvant that the ship had sailed from. It was supposed to be normal, but few things ever go as planned in Cyndlith anymore. And it certainly was not an ordinary ship ride. Just minutes after boarding, the captain and their crew stripped you of your valuables and forced you down into the holding deck of the ship. There are no windows, and there's no way for you to know where you're headed. Will they sell your valuable belongings? Sell you as slaves? Kill you? But such concerns seem mundane compared to the larger issue at hand. You're all shackled to large metal balls that are incredibly difficult to lift, and in a room filled with 6 strangers. What will you do?
(The campaign has now begun. Feel free to begin roleplaying. To be clear, the 6 strangers are the other PCs)
Urgoth growled as they were chained, cursing in his native language. He was lean for a full orc but still had a visible amount of rippling muscle. It was clear though that he was not of the typical orc brood that newcomers to Cyndlith were used to as he had a few differences to his appearance.
As to his own reason for being on the ship he had decided to leave his native land to travel the seas for a time or to perhaps to see the land where those that had begun to colonize his home came from. Things had gone rather smoothly until the captain and crew of the ship had turned on the passengers, one of them knocking him out when he had protested this.
Kiera tugs at her chains pulling them taut seemingly with some idea in mind before turning to the others in the room with her.
"Do any of you have any ideas? I may be able to break the bonds but it wont be quiet... I don't much fancy being sold"
Brief Description of Kiera
Kiera stands about 5ft 7in tall with stark white hair which falls loose down to her waist, she has eyes of violet and skin which is almost white if not for the slight grey tint to it. She has a slight build as most elves do but it is apparent she has tried to keep some element of a muscular physique through whatever training she has.

Sienna Fulgurflash, Bard 3- Child of the Stormy Sea - Alycron West Marches
Aurlan signs, but makes his way down to the hold. He's a slim, 6 ft human, wearing a black shirt/pants with a blue cloak over that, and whitish silver hair. He looks around, his blue eyes scanning the tight quarters they're confined in, as well as the locks used to restrain them.
Having heard of the new continent, the explorer had made a beeline for the next ship there, only to be captured and brought here, and his gear taken. Particularly a few instruments, including his favorite lute, and his notebooks. There's a twitch in his eye as he takes it all in.
"Well, I've got magic." the bard replies to Kiera once their captors leave. "I can open one or two of our locks that way for sure, but it'll make a loud knocking sound so we'll need a plan first."
"I have some magic myself I can make a weapon to defend us when we are on our way out, and quite possibly break some of our bonds, but as I said it would noisy, I can still speak and move my fingers so they made a mistake there"
She looks into the others in the room seeing if they have any ideas as well

Sienna Fulgurflash, Bard 3- Child of the Stormy Sea - Alycron West Marches
"Well it's not so much of a leap to guess they probably have a skiff on this thing, not that I could pilot it... we can maybe steal that and escape, but first things first is getting out of these bindings"
Urgoth looks over the rest of them finally or at least more then he had been before. The orc moved to pull at his chains, testing how much he could move his arms. After a few tugs he stops and leans back against the wall of the ship.
It takes a bit but in a heavy accent he finally speaks common. "It would be wise to wait and see. If any of you can remove the chains quietly that would be the best option..."
Napoleon, you can tell that the shackles are pretty standard. You can see they're not that thick, so breaking them with brute force may be an option. You can't identify the metal they're made from. They have a few marks on them showing that they were welded back together at some point, implying they were broken at one point prior.
Aurlan, you recognize that the shackles are iron, and that they could be easily melted and breaking them with your bare hands would be somewhat difficult but not impossible.
He shares this with the others. "Some of you, unlike me, look really strong, so if you could break the shackles that way it would spare us the noise of doing it magically." he says quietly.
