Good day. I am going to be playing in a one shot with a rather large number of players so I'm looking to try to be as efficient in my rounds as possible. I'm going to be playing a beast master ranger. Im figuring it will be a few gladiatorial type fights so not worried much about spell economy. Going through whats available I was thinking along the lines of BA hunters mark, make my attack applying favored foe if I hit then using my extra attack to send in my companion. This allows me a set up for the extra 2D6 damage without losing the pet attack. Does this make sense?

It does.
What level are you? What beast are you using? Are you ranged or melee? What are the other members of your party?
The beast master, more than many other subclasses, is a great team player. It does more tactically for a group than most martials from the PHB. Examples would be having your beast near enemies for your rogue’s sneak attack and knocking down or restraining enemies for your melee single target damage dealers.

Playing ranged. Rest of the majority of the group is melee. Using the spectral companion from Tasha's, land. Took the Piercer feat. I have a +1 longbow with Bracers of Archery. 8th level.

You can't HM and then FF, both use concentration. Its one or the other.

I would get your land primal beast working ASAP with a bonus action to try to give your buddies advantage to attack a prone enemy. Then use favored foe for a d6 added to your two longbow attacks. Depending on how long the fight goes, switch to hunter’s mark if need be on rounds 2+.

I see a lot of folks say you can activate favored foe right when you hit, giving up hunter’s mark, but still getting both d6s. Expensive, but technically doable.

Well at least we have made progress from Tasha's early days when people were claiming you could concentrate on both. As a player it seems like a remarkably dumb idea to give up HM for once a turn FF. As a DM I would not allow it.
Using a beast’s action economy free movement and fast speed can get it engaged in combat very quickly. I always try to get my beast in a position to make as many attacks of opportunity as possible. Another good tactic is to allow the beast to auto dodge and see if it can provoke attacks of opportunity from your enemies when you or your party members need to maneuver away. With the proficiency bonus added most beasts will have an effective armor class as high as 20 or 21 while dodging.
If you are locked on range you may also want to look into using the sky companion for the fact of it having flyby. that way you would be able to keep your companion out and about safely and much longer than a normal land companion.

Piercer's math is extremely involved, but suffice to say if you qualify for either of them, Elven Accuracy and Gunner are both better. if you're engaging in just a bunch of gladiator fights my normal advice of "if you need a half feat, take Skill Expert" might not apply - you do need to be making ability checks for it to come up. Bear in mind EA only works if you have advantage, so I hope your gladiator fights feature terrain.
Since you're 8th level and monoclassed, you shouldn't need a half-feat other than EA - if you're not a half-elf, you can be 17/16/15 base and ASI it to 18/16/16. Sharpshooter is an excellent plan with a largely melee crew, since ignoring cover will come up a lot, and Archery means your SS shots will usually hit, even more so with EA.

You can HM and then FF and you'll get the damage of both. Kind of a waste of an HM tho.
Ahh. Didnt notice that they were both concentration. Thanks!
