In short, just as the title says, I'm curious if there has been anything officially stated on why the Beast Master and the Drake Warden don't have a spell's known list.
I understand that for the Beast Master, WotC didn't include a spells known list because that wasn't part of the Ranger Subclass design philosophy, but when the UA with the Drake Warden dropped, they chose to not include one as well. After looking into this for a bit, I couldn't fine a reason why this is their choice, for the moment at least. So I'm just curious if anyone else has anymore knowledge on this.
My guess is that they want those specific subclasses to be more martially-aligned than the others. Whether the effect is properly achieved or not is up for debate.
Personally, while I'd prefer if Hunter and Beast Master got Expanded Spell lists, I'm fine if they don't. Drake Warden, on the other hand, I feel definitely should get one.
I believe to this very day that the game designers believe that rangers are on the brink of being overpowered in many ways, especially at tiers of play 1 and 2. The XGE rangers had those spells for balance reasons because of this. Although considered boring, the XGE rangers have more niche abilities than the hunter ranger. The hunter has some of the highest sustained damage output of all the martial classes in the PHB at levels 1 through 10. And although hated by many, compared to the other classes and subclasses in the PHB the beast master had much, if not hidden, exploration based, and clunky, power not seen in any other classes in the PHB.
