Looking for some input on this wording for the Rune Knight's Cloud Rune.
Cloud Rune: Once per short rest, when you or a creature you can see within 30 ft. of you is hit by an attack roll, you can use your reaction to choose a different creature, other than the attacker, within 30 ft of you to become the target of the attack instead, using the same roll.
So say the party is fighting a single tough opponent. Could this be used to negate the damage even without redirecting the damage to another creature? Redirecting from the mage to the raging barbarian might be okay and I suppose it could be used to redirect to a nearby ant. But suppose the fight is in the arctic or a plane without small insects or animals about?

No you either choose a different creature to be the target or the original target gets hit.
