A few years ago I was a player on this adventure when it first came out and my DM told me about a feature that once we were in the Nine Hells that if you rolled a crit on attack you would take some sort of penalty. I can't remember what the penalty was but we never got to actually encounter this feature because COVID happened and we stopped playing.
Now I'm about to DM a game of Avernus through Roll20. We bought the adventure and I've been looking through everything but I can't find any mention of this penalty for rolling a crit on attacks. Where in the book/Roll20 materials is this feature mentioned? I see other forms of optional rules but nothing for crits. Or could this have been some home brew thing my DM came up with and it doesn't actually exist in the book?
Thats a bit of a bummer, when the DM told me about it I was kind of looking forward to the challenge and even crits being tempered. Perhaps I'll try and come up with something like that on my own.

I don't recall such a rule perhaps it was a DM hourseule.
