I have been creating some characters with my group with the new rules and something is highly confusing for me, in a way that I am afraid I am getting stuff wrong.
I love that Armor Training now has check boxes on the sheet, because it reduces the amount of writing during character creation.
Weapon Proficiencies on the other hand aren't many more, are placed exactly below the armor, but we have to write them down.
Is there a genuine reason why that is the case?
Am I just too stupid or has the design team just overlooked it? (And if so, why didn't any playtester notice that?)
My speculation is that weapon types can be expanded on by either future source books or home brew very easily. However armor types are much more a fixed set, and even new types of armor hombrew would still fit into the light, med, heavy arch types.
So by leaving the field blank, it is easier to use the sheet in more situations.
Armour is simple as Light, Medium, Heavy and Shields, there is nothing other than those 4 things.
For Weapons there is both proficiency and mastery, now for 90% of characters, it'll be Simple or Simple and Martial but for a pact of the blade warlock it would be Simple+Pact Weapon, or for a bladesinger wizard, it'd be simple + <a one handed martial melee weapon>.
Masteries also don't have a separate section on the character sheet, thus I believe that section is also usable for weapon masteries.
