New Home Brew fighting style- Versatile ; When using a Versatile weapon the weapon is considered a great weapon two handed and a finesse weapon one handed.
Let me explain. This would mean using strength modifiers for using the weapon two handed and dexterity modifiers when using the weapon one handed. The official fighting styles give some type of buf for using a group of weapons or using weapons a certain way. Versital weapons are a group of weapons that seem to be largely ignored be the classes that can use fighting styles. There is no need for Fighters and Paladins with high strength scores to use a weapon that does less damage and has less advantages with a feat designed for use when using Great Weapon Fighting. Fighters and Rangers with High Dexreity lean toward finesse weapons and two weapon fighting and will continue to as the feats designed for that fighting style all ready allow none light weapons to be duel wielded. But what about the character with a more balanced stat line or the one that carries one weapon and wants to use it in a more flexible way to avoid encumbrance. Would it break the game in some way I can not see. What do you think.
This fighting style, in total, gives DEX fighters a rapier with different damage types and gives great weapon masters (feat) and polearm masters (feat) a cheaper weapon option with less damage. In the latter case, the great weapon fighting style is strictly better.
I don't think this fighting style be picked much if at all since it doesn't do much more than a simple change of weapon could, and there will always be at least 1 strictly better fighting style choice and most characters don't get more than 1.
Any other opinions or suggestions to make it a viable choice without breaking the game. I will add a home brew feat later if no one can point out something out of line with the game. Thanks again for any and all feed back.
