Okay, a bit of a dumb question. I tried to multi class for the first time and one of the features says "your have as many X as your level". In cases like that, does that refer to my total level? Or just my class level? I'm honestly not completely sure.
Probably class level. This sounds like something such as sorcery points, which are determined by your sorcerer level. The only thing off that top of my head that scales with character level rather than class level are cantrips.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Can you be more specific? It is usually class level, but it should say that.
Nope, that's the problem after all. It isn't stating that, that's why i'm confused. It's literally just the text I posted above, that's why I'm so confused and I was wondering if there was an offical or even just generally excepted rule for that.

Yeah figured as much. Which means it get's less usefull the further the game progresses. Oh well, that's fine I suppose. Thx for the help though^^
You will have a number of hit dice equal to your overall level, but you will have X amount for how many levels you have in the first class and Y amount for how many levels in your second class.

For the most part when a class feature says it's based on your level, it means what level you are in that specific class. For example, certain Warlock Invocations have a level requirement, this refers specifically to your Warlock level. The two primary things that are based on your overall character level are your Proficiency Bonus, and the damage scaling of cantrips. So if you're a 16th-level Fighter and then multiclass for 1 level of Wizard, your damage cantrips like Fire Bolt or Shocking Grasp will roll 4d-whatever for the damage. Or if you have 4 levels of Fighter and 1 level of Wizard, your Proficiency Bonus is still +3 because you're a 5th-level character. But if you have 5 levels of Warlock and 4 levels of Fighter, your Pact Magic spell slots are only 3rd-level, not 5th-level.

That doesn't add any specifics that I needed in order to better answer your question. Let me be more specific about what specifics I'm asking for.
Feature name
Class, subclass, or race that granted it
What the "X" in your example actually is.
That kind of thing.
Context is very important in this case and you didn't provide any. Twice.
Racial features scale off character level. Class features usually scale off class level (and say so). Cantrips always scale off character level.
Maybe that answers your question (since I am still not sure what it is).

Can you give the feature name, is this an official subclass or Homebrew?
