I view levels 1 and 2 to be tutorial-ish. They give newcomers the basics of gameplay, but most classes get their first real power at 3. Players have more options on what they can do with their class once they choose a path, school, oath, domain, circle, or whatever at 2 and get their first major benefit from that choice at 3.

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
Same as what Eric said. Also by level 3, they’re a little more durable. Level 1 can die from a bad roll, by 3, not as likely. But for new players, level 1 is best, I think. There’s less you can do so less to remember, and fewer concepts to understand.

So, just wondering, how many people routinely skip level one in character creation?
Why? What level do you tend to start at?
In our long running campaign we start characters at level 3.
Canto alla vita
alla sua bellezza
ad ogni sua ferita
ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!
Is there a particular reason why?
