The mythical Deck of Many Things have both brought hilarity and despair in games that I have participated in. It is one of those items that scares players but has a great deal of fun and unpredictability.
One particular card that I have questions about is The Knight.
I know it creates a LVL 4 Fighter of the same race as the one who pulled the card. Can this Knight, should they survive many of their battles, gain levels like the primary character? Or is the Knight forever a LVL 4 Fighter?
Sure, they can get their share of the XP too, so depending on the level differential between the fighter and the rest of the party, they may level up fairly quickly.
I'd rule that totally they can. The player controls them. Therefore, they're just as much a character as everyone else. However, that would mean less XP in total for each member, as now it's split between Y characters rather than X.

Up to the GM.
