Each extended claw makes the following melee weapon attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (2d6) bludgeoning damage.
I understand, the other information on the apparatus, except of this one thing. It gets a +8 to attack, but the "Hit: 7 (2d6) bludgeoning damage" is what I don't understand.
What does the 7 mean here, is it added to the 2d6 roll? I'm not sure, and no amount of google is helping.
Ah... No, that's an average value for if you want to run a session faster, you can use the average damage rather than rolling. It's for so you can make a quick damage call without needing to roll.
I tend to use this if an encounter isn't going well for the players because I'm rolling high (I've been told to get cursed, by my players, because of genuine high-roll silliness).
If you look at Monster Stat Blocks, you will see this a lot.
