I have a campaign idea that may have lots of potential. It is a storyline where one of the players (me) becomes the villain. This is assuming that the campaign will be months to years long. I would have to go over this with the dungeon master to allow it to be part of the story. So here is the idea. So, the party has a goal to achieve (could be anything). But once that task is over one of the party members (preferably me) betrays the group and kills everyone in the village that gave them hospitality (maybe something corrupts the player could be the motive). From there the said player will go on his own adventure to gain ultimate power. Because the player's alignment becomes chaotic evil the player can kill himself by battling the party members and go into the fugue plane. The traitor kills devils there and makes it to the highest level, at the end the devils of the abyss fear him and follow his lead. From there he escapes the abyss creates a castle of darkness and works on becoming a Lich to become immortal. Once he is a Demon Lich, he will tame a dragon and create a Dracolich to help him in a giant battle. He creates a phylactery that he hides somewhere within the castle. Then he focuses on conquering the world by finding a way to release every demon from the abyss. This will prompt the party to align with an army (someone they meet on the way) to fight the evil player, they will fight against his immense power and his Dracolich, whilst fighting off the demons released from the portal. In the end, they kill the evil player and from there he is punished to be imprisoned in the lowest prison of the nine hells.
It's certainly ambitious. One hurdle is becoming a Lich. The only real official material on becoming a Lich is from Curse of Strahd.
You need to able to cast 9th level Wizard spells. You craft a phylactery strong enough to hold your soul, this process takes 10 days. Then you concoct a Potion of Transformation which takes 3 days and can't be done at the same time as creating a phylactery.
If you're able to become a Lich, another hurdle is the Dracolich. You can't just tame an ancient dragon or adult dragon and tell it to become a Dracolich. You need to find a willing dragon and cultists to perform the ritual.
Assuming your DM decides you can become a Lich and you can find a dragon that wants to become a Dracolich, this is all going to be very messy for the DM. Any time you want to do something to further your nefarious plan, do you expect the DM to tell everyone else to leave the table? And any time the players want to do something, will you leave the table?

That's a lot of work to gain something elves and warforged already have, which is living until something figures out how to kill you.
