Starting a new game with a first time DM, usually, I am the DM but actually a player this time! Thought I would go with a sorcerer and wanted to get some thoughts on the backstory I made. Wanted to have a bit of direction to it but leave a lot of possible options open.
I am playing a scourge aasimar with the haunted one background.
Bascially thinks he is a normal human and hasn't realized his power fully yet - knows he can do some basic magic but that is about it. His father 'died' shortly after his birth (a divine being) and he lived with his mother. On his 10th birthday he came into his powers and while out with friends something happened and they all disappeared but he doesn't remember what happened. He has since been haunted in his dreams and by shadows at every turn until he confronted them and burned down a home thus causing him to run away nin fear of retaliation from the community...since them he has been slowly learning about his powers by still has very little idea
ANyone have any thoughts or recommendations for playing with a haunted one background
One thing to keep in mind when you’re playing a character haunted by their past is that, while Batman looks really cool brooding in a corner, that doesn’t translate well to a roleplaying game. Make sure your character’s trauma doesn’t stop him from communicating with the other characters: to the other players, an “introverted” or “laconic” character can easily just come off as edgy or boring. That’s not to say your character shouldn’t be dark, just don’t let it stop them from talking and (slowly) making friends!

Wizard (Gandalf) of the Tolkien Club
That's a good point. I will make sure to keep that in mind. First session he make a good connection with a kenku rogue so will see where that goes.
