I want to make Boya from The Ying Yang Masters: Dream of Eternity.
How would you make this character, scale down the power level to appropriate levels where needed, as this character was meant for a movie, not a game?
I can't find a wiki article about him, but here is what I gather from the story.
Backstory: (gathered from the dialogue of the movie)
A fox demon killed Boya’s mother when he was very small, after which he was raised in a temple. At some point, he swore to kill all the demons in the world so that nobody else would ever have to feel the pain (we assume emotionally) that he suffered. Eventually, he becomes a powerful Ying-Yang master. When an evil demonic serpent is reawoken, Boya is dispatched by his order to the imperial city, where he is to undertake his task as one of the serpent slayers.
Powers: (gathered from what we see in the movie)
He is a master bowman and proficient with swords, making him a very dangerous foe for anyone to face, however, he is primarily focused on killing demons, which is where most of his powers lie.
He wears what seems to be leather armour warded against demon attacks and seems to be an armour master.
Boya is a Ying-Yang Master with powerful magic, which he wields primarily through his bow. When magically imbued his arrows can travel immense distances, almost never miss their mark, and can cause significant injury to demons from only a glancing blow. A full on hit from one of his imbued arrows instantly kills lesser demons and causes great harm to more powerful ones.
He also has a magic lantern, which he can use to draw out a demons essence, and then turn it into a power source - such as powering up a guardian statue.
Boya can also use other minor and lesser magical items commonly used by Ying-Yang masters, such as magic ears and eyes.
Weaknesses:
He seems incapable of using the Ying-Yang gate method of travel, like other masters, but is exceptionally physically fast. It seems rather than generating a gate, he directs that power into increasing his dexterity and speed instead to supernatural levels instead.
This is a weakness, because it means that he can’t escape traps, or gate vast distances like the other masters can. Or use the gates to negate the enemy attacks.
Using his sword to parry them instead, and trying to maintain distance to get his bow into play.
Alternative Form:
He does have another even more powerful form as a spirit guardian, where he becomes enormously strong, gains the ability to fly and can fight one on one with a greater demon for a short time. However, that seems to have been a one-off, and not a power he retained. His spirit guardian form appears to have been granted to him because he selflessly sacrifices his life to stop the demon from escaping the city and ravaging the world, but as he is brought back to life at the end, he appears to have lost that power. Such an act still speaks to his character however and might factor into any build of him.
Thanks XD

Sounds like an Arcane Archer fighter to me, or maybe Horizon Walker Ranger with a focus on demons. His other abilities or items would be just that; magic items. I'm sure a DM could homebrew a one-time use of Shapechange as some kind of high level Boon, if you desperately wanted to include the alternative form.

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?

I don't appear to own the Arcane Archer, which is why it never occurred to me. I was trying to find a way to make an archer magical, though if I bought the subclass, I guess that would solve the problem,
