Considering making a dhampir for my next sea-faring character!
Essentially she would have been transformed following a magical incident and someone making a pact on her behalf to get her out of her magical trauma. I’m afraid this might make her lore too heavy so I’m still debating the story but I was wondering what a good hunger would be for her.
I’m a bit squeamish when it comes to things like consuming other humanoid product so I’d very much like to avoid anything organic if that makes sense. I was thinking she could feast on fear, making her particularly fearsome on the battlefield. But her also being a good person I don’t want her to like… enjoy it when an innocent is afraid. Does anyone have experience with any unique dhampir hungers they would care to share?
I haven’t played a dhamper but I’m thinking about one. One I thought of was music. Specifically piano music. It’s really up to your imaginations, but maybe this helps
I like the fear idea. But realize the whole idea of eating body parts or drinking blood refers to draining a person of their life essence or energy and consuming it. The idea of the dhampir is the walk of a fine line of consuming the thing they are addicted to with a very real chance everytime of losing control and their humanity at the same time! You could try feeding on fear, or magic, or psychic energy, while walking this razors edge if played right. I like some of the literature that shows vampires who gain control, by never allowing themselves the full indulgent taste! Maybe they pulls drops of blood from tiny pinholes. Or by touching a person drains them of HP or stats by drawing out their life energy. Or the consumption of lesser life forms. Your only limitation is your own imagination. Vampires are extremely common and popular so they have been dissected a million ways from which you can borrow from.
If you want to take a seafaring approach, you would either be in an environment where you are starved and forced to feed on whatever is available. Or you could come up with a way for your character to feed on Sea Creatures which you would commonly find from your place of origin. This could include seals and birds. But also another fun tact is to have an assistant or concubine that you can feed on for mutual benefit. Maybe drawing on the energy idea again. And if you went barbarian, you could do some sort of battlefield feeding of emotions and/or energy that could bring on your rage trait. Just some ideas.
Remember, the secret is not everything is going to be a benefit that makes you over powered. You have to create penalties that balance your character out, which will make your game way more believable, but allows you to connect to your character and story without being a God-like character.

I am not sure what my Spirit Animal is. But whatever that thing is, I am pretty sure it has rabies!
