Hi! We are starting a new campaign and I want to create a drow druid character from the Underdark, that got infected with some mushroom spores that are quite intelligent. The circle of Spores druid, obviously. The idea is that these spores somehow change the mind of their bearer both in stress situations, like a drug, and in general, so that way the character got his druidic magic and his high Wisdom.
There are some things that I struggle to imagine. Like how would it fit in the mechanic of getting his druidic circle only at level 2? Or what would this symbiosis grant to these intelligent spores? Can something like this happen from lore perspective, especially high Wisdom and magic granting part? We are playing Forgotten Realms campaign.
There's something with "telepathic spores" in the "Out of the Abyss" Adventure, if i remember it right, BUT i believe it was some kind of demonic influence infection something something.
In general, your take sounds good to me. Motherland: Fort Salem had a sentient mycelium network that acted like a deity in some way.
Regarding gaining the subclass at level 2, just roleplay that your Druidic powers come your fungal symbiosis at level 1, but the distinctive features that mark you as a Circle of Spores Druid don’t manifest until level 2. The odour, however, was there from the start…

What about incorporating myconid lore and charactristics?
Sounds like an interesting idea, myconid sovereign also has 15 WIS. That can be interesting if a myconid could coexist in his body.
