i made a character for a lvl 20 oneshot that the dm looked at and said fine as long as i can come up with a coherent backstory. i was having fun modifying a build i saw on treantmonk's temple youtube channel for being a skill monkey. it is a rogue 11/bard 6/ cleric 1/warlock 2. the sheet is here ddb.ac/characters/23368427/I4DArd. i can't think of any sort of explanation that is vaguely coherent for this. can you help me come up with some ideas.
Started off as a Rogue-prodigy-you grew up as a Carny and were very quick to learn new features, had a way of getting people to pay for shows and other tricks. You quickly learned some medicine tricks as the carnival life is often dangerous and paying for care was not always an option. Learning how to ease drop and get information from towns was important when 'picking marks' and you learned how to really listen to people and histories.
Adventuring sounded like it would be more lucrative as you became older and you decided to start going on quests while sending money back to your carny family (unknown to your fellow adventures.) After a while, you picked up the bag pipes as you started missing your home and the need for attention. You learned different spells this way, and chose College of Lore. You even write letters to your family with stories and music for them to perform puppet shows and plays.
While adventuring, you almost died during a battle and made a deal with a fiend for your life (warlock.) However, you think that you are starting to be chained to something and in search of a way to become free again, you became of cleric of Knowledge and continue efforts to be rid of the fiend.
