I have rarely had the opportunity to build and play my character as I usually am the DM. I am currently leveling a lore bard. My character is build mostly around making his party more effective. They are concentration spell heavy so I am trying to find duration spells that buff or debuff that do not require concentration. I have been looking through various class guides for years now and rarely notice people mentioning having concentration buff spells stack with non concentration.
For instance s a low level bard I find myself doubling up on Aid and Heroism. Also tossing in Mirror image when things get dicey.
I am curious if others have contemplated spell combinations and picking spells based on non-concentration buffs and what your favorite choices are across different classes?
A search for "broken" or "op" spell combos will give you a lot of examples, because most of those combine a Concentration spell with a non-concentration spell.
As a bard, you'll get access to several spells from other spell lists, allowing you to make some pretty spectacular combinations.
One example of such a combination is Plant Growth and Spike Growth. Most characters will have to dash to move one square (Every foot of movement costs four feet of movement, and your movement is halved, so moving one square costs 20feet of movement, and most characters on a dash in difficult terrain have 30, which doesn't get them to the second square). And better yet, the target takes damage for moving through it. Now if you or your party take spells or abilities that force movement (that movement not being reduced by difficult terrain) you can rake enemies across the damaging plants like a cheese grater until they die.
