Hey y'all, so I'm an avid fan of a game known as "limbus company" and I was wondering if there were any sort of sub classes or archetypes that would fit into how limbus company's combat system goes. For those who don't know how it works in which it varies from what attack your using and how it can be executed in which it gets put into a coin flip system, heads grants you more power to your attack from 1-4 coins, but your opponent also uses this rule in which if they get higher you lose a coin for this "clash" and you flip until either one of you loses all of your coins.
This video has a better visualization of it in general:
If anyone could help me out with this, i'd love to incorporate this into a fighter if possible.
Only thing remotely similar to that is the Fighter subclass BattleMaster. They start with 4 superiority dice and get more as they level up. They can use these in various combat maneuvers, including things like lunging, parrying, feinting, etc.
Sad that there isn't any sort of clash mechanic you can do in dnd
The clash mechanic is D&D is attack roll vs AC, and hit points vs hit points.
If you wanted the sort of "clash" mechanic above you'd be changing the basic rules of the game, so that instead of a static AC value, both the attacker & defender roll a 1d20 and add either their attack or their defense modifier (which would be AC-10) and if the attacker surpasses the defender the attack hits. Or if you wanted to most closely simulate the the system you are talking about, you instead of rolling d20s you instead roll 4d4s and then you could create a rule like: whenever you roll a 4 on a d4 the opponent loses one of their d4s or something like that.
ETA: I guess another way you could kind of do it for a Fighter subclass would be:
Power Spike!
Whenever you make an attack roll, you can choose to expend hit dice up to your proficiency bonus, roll the hit dice (do not add your constitution modifier) for each die that results in a 1-4 you regain hit points equal to the roll, for each die that results in a 5-10 you add +1 to your attack roll.
I really enjoy the idea of both sides rolling, but I know that adds a whole level of complexity and chew to battles if every roll is contested. It would be a fun way to thwart all of the players that have every monster stat memorized and work against the average numbers like a card counter at a casino. It could also swing combat in wild ways if the group is rolling poorly and the DM is on fire. Rolling a D20 vs an attack of +12 and an AC of +8 could have some really interesting interactions.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
IMHO, Earthdawn is still the best fantasy realm, Shadowrun is the best Sci-Fi realm, and Dark Sun is the best D&D realm.

Hm, I'll have to look into it then.
