i have a home brew world with a lot of magic. One could describe it as an excessive amount of magic. Is there a workaround anyone has used to double total spell slots for magic users? I have considered creating a magic item every magic user gets as they create their character.
Double Spell slots? That would just be homebrew... The only thing that would be readily available to a low level caster in normal play would be a Pearl of Power, which can restore one spell slot up to 3rd level once per day.
I'd say it could be worth it to have a homebrew "mana potion" in this world, especially if you're balancing the game so that the players would be expected to have more than the default number of spell slots. It would probably be something simple just:
"As an action, you may consume the contents of this potion and immediately recover all spent spell slots. After consuming one such potion, consuming any more will have no effect until you complete a long rest".
There's still some strategy there... since it's an action to consume, the players would probably want to avoid using it in combat. But also since it immediately recovers all spent spell slots, the ideal time to drink it would be out of combat when all spell slots are already spent... but sometimes they might find themselves in combat where they could really use a 4th level slot right now for a specific spell, but they've still got a 3rd level slot they haven't spent yet.
But I tend to like homebrew items that have at least some level of strategy involved with their use. If you're intending it to be something that equates to doubling their spell slots per day it would also have to be something that they can easily brew on their own or which they could purchase easily in bulk. Although I suppose now that I'm thinking about it you could simply make it a common magical flask that refills once per day...
Why overthink it? Just tell the players they have double the spell slots. And then try and do something nice for the fighters. Like a gift basket or something.
I’ve tried that. The problem is I have to edit the item every time they level up. Thanks for the idea though.
There isn't really a way around that. There are no modifiers for spell slots, and feats and items don't have "at higher levels" options. You could make a homebrew copy of their subclasses and add a feature with charges equal to the number of spell points they should have and have those increase at higher levels (very complicated, but most functional).

This. But like, a really nice gift basket. I'm talking jerky, cheese, maybe even a nice tankard of beer.
Aside from just upping the number of spell slots, have you tried the spell points variant in the DMG? I prefer it for, well, everyone but wizards. If your sorcerer wants to dump everything into just blasting 5th-level spells all day, go for it.
That would be great but how do you turn it on in Beyond?
It has not been added yet, to the dismay of all of us wanting to squeeze more versatility out of the system.
I just add it in the notes section, a quick list of max spell points, remaining spell points, and the per-spell costs of the levels I can cast at the time.

The closest thing is items with charges (the charges representing additional slots).

There's a rest variant in the DMG that allows casters to get back spell slots below level 5 pretty easily during the adventuring day.

I created a mug of beer that never empties.
That’s likely the easiest way.

Mana Potions it is then! Thank you everyone for your help.
