Curious y'alls thoughts on this super melee built Hexblade. Basically, gonna be wielding a Greataxe thanks it being my hexblade and pact weapon. Took the feat for great weapons master and sentinel. Plan is to basically cast darkness on myself (having Devil's Sight invocation), then get up next to a bad guy and hack away at em with having advantage on attacks and them having disadvantage attacking me thanks to Darkness, if I've hexed it then will score crits on a 19 or 20, and then if they try to run out of the darkness they can't b/c of sentinel. Sounds like fun to me, but wanted to make sure it would work first.
If this is a v.human or custom lineage, it'll work fine soon enough. You'll want to have both feats by lvl 4, because if you delay the build by lvl 8, things like tremor sense or true sight may become more common whereas in at lower lvls there's pretty much nothing that can stand up to that sort of combo.
Personally, I'd rather use this for a half-drow build, where i'd take elven accuracy, then grab GWM and sentinel, but that's way way too late to be worth it. Only do so if you've got one of those nice DMs who let's everyone start with a feat.

My only question is how will this zone of darkness spell work for your party members? Do they have a way to see through that fairly large area of darkness? Or are they just supposed to be at disadvantage too?
There are a ton of posts going on at length on the pros and cons of the Devil's Sight/Darkness combo, particularly as far as party interaction goes. I strongly suggest that you read them before going this route, and discuss it with your party members ahead of time.
