So recently a friend of mine has started their own campaign, and I decided to make a new Warlock character. I got inspired by something I saw online, and decided to make a Tiefling Pact of the Fiend Warlock, with the idea being that my patron would be a relative to my character. For backstory I got the idea that my character was a rank-and-file soldier in a conflict on the Infernal plane, but failed and so grandma stepped in and decided to send my character to the mortal plane to exert influence and grow stronger there for the time being
The whole party is currently level one, and so far I have decided on taking Eldritch Blast and Hellish Rebuke, but I'm not sure what other spells would fit thematically.
I'd also be interested if anyone has ideas for what I could do roleplay wise
For reference, my character stats are 11 str, 14 dex, 11 constitution, 16 int, 14 wisdom, and 18 charisma
I suppose an infernal soldier makes for a good fish out of water on the material plane. You could RP learning to deal in a totally different culture.
If you don't want the character to be just straight evil maybe they just went with the flow back home, and now introduced to goodly culture the character's horizons expand. But they keep the infernal base, picking up human conventions one at a time.
All the spells you have access to will fit with the theme pretty well, don't stress just take things you think will be fun or effective. As you level up you can swap spells anyway.
What is your character's personality like? Both of the warlocks I have played in full campaigns (Old One) were unaware at first that they were in a pact, and so thought they were sorcerers (I was amused and upset during one of them where another party member rolled a 20 on his Arcana check to identify my "Magic Missile" one minute in). I could see a deceptive warlock claiming to be a sorcerer, as they would have less of a reputation. In that case, Prestidigitation would be good.

I was considering either NE or CN/TN. Not necessarily doing evil for the sake of doing evil, but willing to do so if it would benefit him.
Yeah, thats fair. It'll probably take some time to really narrow it down to what I want to use though haha

Thats... actually a super fun idea. Unfortunately Ive already told the rest of the party that I will be playing a Warlock when we were figuring out what classes everyone wanted to use, so they would see through a 'Magic Missile' Eldritch blast pretty easily.
If the campaign hasn't started yet, let them know that the character's background is supposed to be a secret, hopefully they'll play along with you. Just because the other players know you are a warlock, doesn't mean their characters do.
Tieflings automatically get Hellish Rebuke do they not?
For a RP sense is definitely go with the "fish out of water" idea. Tieflings would generally get strange looks or fear from common people, so you could play up being discriminated against and how your character reacts to that. Better yet, struggling to control the natural "evil" impulse when contronted with the opportunity
Just curious- did you random roll your stats and then randomly assign those numbers to stats? I only ask because that's a really high intelligence score....personally I would go 16 on my con but to each his own....

I'm curious what your character's thoughts are on Lawful people if he didn't cut it in the Lawful Hierarchy of the Hells. :)
