Greetings Beyonders!
We've deployed some new filters on some pages that have needed it for a long time. I will say that, especially for the Characters page, this is not the end state but rather a small, incremental update to put some things in place for another feature that will be rolling out in the near-term.
For the Characters page:
We've added partial string match search boxes for the Character Name, Race / SubRace, and Class / SubClass. There is also an integer search field for class level. Our end vision for this page is to provide a much more complex UI with grouping / filtering / sorting, with those elements being more "live filters" and drag and drop capabilities. However, we needed the above filters in place now for another upcoming feature, and will tackle the more responsive UI update as its own project soon.
For the Official Backgrounds page:
We've added filters for Name, Source, Skills (Proficiency), and Tags. We may expand on these in the future, but these should help in navigating this ever growing official list.
For the Official Feats page:
We've added filters for Name, Source, Prerequisites, and Tags. As with Backgrounds, we may expanded the filters over time, but hopefully, these will provide a lot of use, out of the gate.
There's a lot of other projects and features in process that we're super excited to see get launched in the near future!
Happy Dragon Slaying!
One filter that is missing on the Feats page is the ability to search for ability based "half-feats", i.e. the ones that add a +1 to a particular ability score as well as other stuff. I'd wager that's a highly sought after option.
Great job. Now if there's a filter for choosing spells in the character builder we're in business
I take it you live in Victoria? In which case it seems to be confusing these boxes with the State input for addresses.
I'm happy to see improvements being made, but where is the love for druid wild shape!? It's an entire class feature that is completely missing the treatment it deserves.
They’ve gone from more substantial weekly updates since the revamp to just this tweak in over a month. Something big must be brewing! I just hope it’s not the Twitch integration taking all their focus as I’m a big Twitch user but don’t use it in the browser, ever.
What I'd really love to see is either folders or labels for the character list page. Finding with ctrl+f is faster than typing into the box when I know exactly what character I want to go to, but more for the sake of being able to clean up and organize the character list page. Honestly, I'd love to categorize my characters as "Active," "AL," "Dead," "NPC," "Handout," "Experiments," or "Future" -- and being able to create folders for those groups and categorize my characters would be super useful (or labels, with a decent way to set a default label when I land on the character list page).
I often have more than 30 characters, and a lot of them are NPCs in campaigns I DM. I also have a good handful of AL-legal characters. And both of those clutter up the character list page. At the very least, I'd like to be able to order the characters either by most recently used, or manually so that long-running (but active) characters don't end up at the bottom of the page.
Until then, there's always Beyond Help for folders.
You could say we're not... beyond help... :D
I was surprised to find on the feats page that you could filter by source material that doesn't actually have any feats in it -- you know which sources contain feats, because you sell feats as separate bundles. It makes it confusing for a new user, and appears rushed on the development end. Hopefully this will get cleaned up soon.
The team is doing a great job with adding content and making some nice upgrades, however, I would like to see the many bugs from the character sheet revamp be fixed as a priority. There are thousands of comments to back up this assertion.
I know this site is becoming more and more popular as the popularity of D&D rises with 5E, I guess I just expect more with the purchase of a legendary bundle and master tier subscription than just some filter upgrades after a month with no bug fixes.
I get that a lot of content has to be added for future adventures, but it just doesn't seem like I'm asking too much for some polish from a major patch that is 3+ months old now.
It’s definitely a balancing act between polishing up the current sheet, and adding all the features folks are clamouring for. Some additions such as this seem to come out of left field, I’m sure there are other things people would have much preferred. Myself, I’d be happy if they gave the current sheet a quick pass on the Actions panel and finished it off properly before they did anything else. Most of it is just missing or incorrect data which could be fixed within hours. And I’m sure someone could figure out how to stop tabs flicking back to ALL sub-tab with each panel change quite easily.
The tags in the Feats filter include 'rogue,' 'backstab,' and 'medicine' (with that capitalization) which do nothing, in addition to other, more official looking tags (such as 'Help') which also do nothing. I can see the latter where you're working from a set list of standard tags, but those first three don't look like they belong at all.
This looks really awesome!!! when was this? Thx!!
Ive noticed my favorite background is missing from the list. Guild Artisan is a valuable asset to any party esp a Carpenter. In a group i am in my rogue has got that talent. Hes created a sled so the team can carry extra equipment that is to heavy to carry. In this case several axes for cutting wood and 3 heavy bags of apples as rations for two horses and a team of 4. Later well make a raft to cross over a wide river as a shortcut.
I hope you fix the backgrounds soon
Guild Artisan is an option from the Player's Handbook. In order to use it on D&D Beyond you would need to either: Purchase the PHB, purchase the Guild Artisan background, or homebrew yourself using the built-in homebrew system.
Great addition, i am very much looking forward to the near term release because my dm characters page is getting completely messed up with npc's :D
