I appreciate the Phase system set up for DnDB, but it seems sort of skewed. As they mentioned, Phase One really doesn't include any toolsets... So are we just beta testing the servers and general functionality (on top of double checking the reference material)?
i've ran through several items (creatures mainly) and so far very easy to understand an concise. However, is this not going to be an app? I thought we'd be beta testing it on our phones/ipads/whatever we could? Or is that a later patch??

The signup page showed an app on an Ipad and mobile, as well as the original announcement saying there'd be an app, so Id say itll be in a later phase. Or there is an apk somewhere on this site to download a beta version of the app.
I'm glad it's not just me! I was clicking on everything trying to figure out how to create a character! Now I understand that we're currently just looking at all the printed manuals converted to an easy-to-navigate website and looking for typos and glitches.
This is just a web site. It will not be an app (at least initially). Here is what the product lead for DNDB said on reddit "D&D Beyond is a responsive web application that can work on any device - definitely not a desktop client or mobile app only available for iOS or Android. "
We're testing the compendium. Does it function right? Is the UX good? Does it link to the right stuff? Do the filters work. All the tools will be built on and referencing the compendium. It's the first piece that needs to work right.
appreciate the post. It does seem like its not an 'app' and that helps with the confusion. However the site will be accessible on our phones. Thank you
you hit the nail om the head, we are basically testing servers and finding anything missing from current content (like grappling missing information). At the moment there is only access to SRD content but, we will work our way through picking everything apart.

The app is written with the Cobalt framework, so they *can* wrap it in a native app if they want to.
Given that they want this thing to work offline (at least phase two and three... knowing WotC, I seriously doubt the compendium will be available offline), I'm supposing that that's the eventual plan.

There is plenty of functionality within the compendium to test and give feedback on. UI layout, clickable hyperlinks from monsters to spells, Filters on spells and items, ect. The layout and usability as it stands is what will be replicated to the remaining phases and toolsets, so if something is not intuitive or user friendly its best to report it now rather than in a later phase.
I am really excited to find this. I played the "old-fashioned" way thirty years ago and absolutely loved it. I have no real questions, I am just excited to be here and to participate in a game that really is fun! Sean
Is there an app to download? How do I access this on my tablet or phone?
A native mobile app is absolutely in the works for DDB, but at this point for the beta everything is included in the website. The site is mobile responsive, so you should be able to view and use it just fine on a phone or tablet. Just visit the site in your device's browser. If something doesn't look right on your mobile device, that's the kind of feedback we want to hear during the beta so we can make it pretty everywhere. We will definitely share more specifics about the mobile app soon, including how to download it.
I think this helps in what they want us to test! I had a few errors while checking a few spells. They want to make sure that what they put up works!

For phase 1? I think you nailed it.

So the character builder tools come later, right?

Yeah, we are beta testing forum and beta testing depth of the market ( for them) I think.

Anyone have an idea of when that might be? Also where are you guys getting your avatars? I can't find anything other than the default.
This is what we are all thinking lol
But yeah just glorified spell checkers I suppose :P
