I created a homebrew Wizard spell and was able to successfully add it to a wizard character I created. However, when I try to add the spell to an Eldritch Knight character I have it doesn't show up in the Add Spells tab.
when you create/edit your homebrew spell, there is a box labelled, "AVAILABLE FOR CLASSES" which you can add Eldtritch Knight to, so that your character can see the spell (see my screenshot attached).
Interestingly when I try to add classes to the "AVAILABLE FOR CLASS(ES)" box, Eldritch Knight doesn't appear as an option (and trying to add it manually doesn't work either). I only see Bard, Cleric, Druid, Paladin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard.
Oh, interesting indeed ... have you purchased Player's Handbook on D&D Beyond?
I'm just thinking that, if your access to create your Eldritch Knight character is through joining a campaign, then you might not have access to it somehow through homebrew.
I have purchased the PH on this account (I purchased it on the 26th). So perhaps something either wasn't updated correctly or has yet to update, that's causing this problem.

Eldritch Knights are supposed to use the wizard spell list.
Cantrips
You learn two cantrips of your choice from the wizard spell list. You learn an additional wizard cantrip of your choice at 10th level.
Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher
You know three 1st-level wizard spells of your choice, two of which you must choose from the abjuration and evocation spells on the wizard spell list.
The Spells Known column of the Eldritch Knight Spellcasting table shows when you learn more wizard spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be an abjuration or evocation spell of your choice, and must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.
The spells you learn at 8th, 14th, and 20th level can come from any school of magic.
Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the wizard spells you know with another spell of your choice from the wizard spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and it must be an abjuration or evocation spell, unless you’re replacing the spell you gained at 3rd, 8th, 14th, or 20th level from any school of magic.
Just checked again and I'm still unable to select Eldritch Knight as a class when making a custom spell. It's been a week since I purchased the PH and I still only see the core classes when I try to fill out the AVAILABLE FOR CLASS(ES) section of the Basic Information tab.

That's because Eldritch Knight uses the wizard spell list.

In other words try adding it to the wizard spell list and see if you can select it as an Eldritch Knight.

Odd, I added a spell for giggles assigned it as a wizard cantrip, can pick it for wizard but still doesn't show up for Eldritch Knight. You have any other ideas Matthias, cuz I don't at this point.

I just picked random ended being evocation.
That's odd. It should have worked.

When homebrewing the spell, add both the "wizard" and "eldritch knight" tags, and make sure that the school is either abjuration or evocation.
I can't figure out how to paste an image into the Insert/Edit image thing, so I'll just repeat that Eldritch Knights use the wizard spell list and I'm not seeing an Eldritch Knight tag in the appropriate portion of the Edit page.

Matthias, if you are seeing the drop-menu as depicted in the figure attached, post the link to the page of your spell, I'll give a look.

Yes, that drop-down menu. I'm not seeing Eldritch Knight or Arcana Trickster and never have. Besides that, Eldritch Knights and Arcane Tricksters use the wizard spell list.

Thanks Josef and Matthias_von_Schwarzwald for trying this out as well. It looks like you two ran into the same problem I ran into. Here is what I see for my spells when I try to add classes
Eldritch Knight and Arcane Trickster are missing from the list.
I am having the same problem. I bought all the D&D content. I acknowledge Eldrtich Knights use the wizard spell list. When I create an (evocation) spell there is no Eldritch Knight in the drop down menu. I see the same thing that samohtnnud does above. When I add Wizard to the classes available to use the spell my Eldritch Knight cannot add it though my wizard can. I don't get why some folks have Eldritch Knight in the drop down and some do not.

Hi samohtnnud,
when you create/edit your homebrew spell, there is a box labelled, "AVAILABLE FOR CLASSES" which you can add Eldtritch Knight to, so that your character can see the spell (see my screenshot attached).
