I think its been kinda brought up, and it might be more expensive but it'd be cool if maybe D&D Beyond had an independent app you could download from any mobile store like iTunes, Google Play Store & etc.
Cause there are times where I don't have internet connection or maybe the browsers are just acting up, not that big of an issue but just a suggestion that if it got done would make some of this a lot easier if you could just grab a reference for something at the push of a button.
Anybody else have their opinions on how this would help/hinder things feel free to comment I'm curious to see what people think about this. u_u
Honestly when I read 'beta testing opens' I immediately assumed it was an app and didn't read anything as I signed up. Not disappointed, but very much hoping to get this info mobile.
I'm pretty sure that's already the plan, it's just easier for them to put up the website first. They'll be built on the same code, so turning the web one into a mobile app shouldn't be much work. But for the moment it's easier to just direct everyone to a website - everyone's accessing it in the same place, so they're fixing more general bugs, they don't need to worry about people not updating the app, etc.
If they don't do a mobile app, i feel like this whole thing is a missed opportunity. My biggest gripe with the current selection of character builders available is the lack of current/updated rules and homebrew/unearthed arcana support.
I love the idea of this online resource, but i may not bother I'd there isn't a mobile app option.
I would love this, as i don't have a laptop. Playing around a guy on a pc also doesnt sound very fun. Having an tablet/phone app for this would be very helpful to trim down at pages strewn around at the gaming table. In addition, the quick access would make the game go much smoother!
Agreed. Or at least have an app where you could save certain info for offline use - perhaps have a way to save your pc stats, spells, etc. for offline access.
I think a mobile app would be great as well but I have to say there are plenty out there already. This to me feels like a more interactive and quick reference to official content (yes, yes, I know there will be home-brew added) and character sheets. If you are merely looking for UA content to use for quick reference there are plenty apps already available for this. I would love to see this as a mobile app myself don't get me wrong, I just think the purpose of it being a web-app is for the capability it provides in comparison to those offline database mobile applications.

You are not wise enough to fear me as I should be feared. You do not know the first note of the music that moves me.
Sorry to be the broken record here, but I thought this would be a mobile app as well. I think there is great value in having a mobile app that you could back-up/sync your character sheets with the online version. Sometimes my group is using the computer screen do display a map or a clue or any umber of things and it is a bit inconvenient to switch between screens/windows. I hope you are correct tgehring!

Any apps that are out there at the moment (should) only have the SRD content available. Anything else you (should) have to add yourself, which means constructing it in the right format yourself, or finding someone that's constructed it. The D&D:B app (which I'm pretty sure is coming at some point) will let you get all the official content - stuff like EEPC, SCAG, VGtM, and hopefully UA - made in the correct format, by WotC, with (hopefully) no errors, right when it comes out. It just streamlines the process a lot.
Of course, it depends a lot on what the pricing is like, and the fact that those apps exist means that if WotC comes up with a consumer-unfriendly pricing scheme, we can just go right back to those other apps. But if they price it right it'll hopefully be better than those other apps.

I 100% agree. I just recently saw that a mobile-app was already under development (I thought this was it). I would definitely buy into this app as long as the pricing is still fair. Or even if you buy hardcopy and get a code for the content on here I would be happy as I still like the physical copy. This would just make things easier.

We do have plans for a mobile app that we have in the works. Offline is important!
Actually, I have a follow up question that a friend of mine mentioned as a good point, when this is all said & done.. is this going to end up being locked behind a pay wall? And will Beta Test Users still have access to the service once after release?
I apologize if this sounds as a kind of hostile question, but I think what with how certain organizations are with these kinds of things, people could be worried about other sites that host the same info for free right now like some of the DnD Wikis.

beta will not get special access would be my guess.

Which sort of makes sense from a business perspective. The paid content won't work significantly differently to the SRD stuff, so they don't need to do additional testing for that on top of the SRD stuff. Also means that they don't need to shut people out of content they've had in beta, but they also don't lose money on a large amount of beta customers getting grandfathered access to paid stuff. Which I guess means we won't see any non-SRD content until after beta :(

For sure hoping it will be a mobile app. I am not disappointed, but I definitely was expecting it xD I love it all so far though (:
Going to give this a lock as its a duplicate :)
