I'm no programmer nor do I pretend to know the first thing about it. I'd say I have a general idea about it and that's it.
Not sure what you do for a living, but if someone said that about your profession, and questioned why you hadn't done something as quickly as they felt you should have (despite their ignorance of how your profession works) what would you think of their statement?
As a developer myself: THIS^^^^ Whatever timeline you (mattswymer) seem to be expecting, triple it, at least.
There's a rule-of-thumb my boss and I use to determine accurate development timelines: predict how much time it would take, and then double it. That usually accounts for any unforeseen challenges (which there ALWAYS are) and time for testing.
Now, I say all of this only because Larry is cranking out stuff in a matter of hours over at OrcPub. He had his site completely gutted recently and has still managed to develop a complete homebrew site that allows almost nearly the same features it used to, all within a few weeks.
Orcpub has a lot less restrictions in what he is "allowed" to do now that he can't use any content. He has no licensing approvals that need to be gone through, nor changes that need to be approved by Twitch and WotC before becoming live.
His site is incredibly simple compared to beyond and only needs to do the character building, changes are quick because it is a simple foundation. Beyond is a powerful foundation upon which a fairly simple concept has been formed so it may look similar, but it's like looking at a Honda Civic vs a Rolls Drop Head Coupe. They are both cars, four wheels, steering wheel, and they run on gas, but that's about the end of the comparison. I can change parts on a civic in a matter of minutes to hours, but those same parts take 5 times longer to change on the Coupe because of the complexity of the machine. Beyond is a live updating, active character sheet to be used during game, I haven't tried to use Orcpub in that manner, but I don't think it has that functionality, nor 90% of the functionality that Beyond has the potential for.
No one offered him a job for various reasons, one being that he was stealing intellectual property and companies don't want to reward that sort of behavior.
Not sure what you mean by your PCs can crank out a new sheet in a couple minutes with Orcpub, in D&D beyond your sheet is saved forever.
In the end it is going to come when it comes. The Beyond crew are nerds just like the rest of us, not some corporate suits and they want to see these changes made more than anyone. They are working hard, building their baby, something they can be proud of (just like Larry is doing). We should cut them some slack.

I don't really like the character creator at all. It's annoying to use, honestly I think you should try hiring whoever made Orcpub, because they did a better job than you.
