Hi I’m running a D&D PbP campaign, looking for players who PREFERABLY meet the following criteria:
* Are in Australia (or a similar Timezone)
* Have NOT played or DM’d the Lightning Keep Oneshot
____________________________________________
I’m looking for 5 players, the campaign starts at level 3, and you can use any character options from PHB, DMG, XGtE, TCoE, MP:MotM, SCAG, FToD, and VGtM/EEPC
Please make your character sheet on D&D beyond: dndbeyond.com/characters
The first 5 people to send a character and meet the requirements will get to be in the campaign.
Posting will be whenever you can, but if we are all in the same Timezone it should keep the pace going.
If I don’t get enough recruitments, I will make it open to anyone in any Timezone.
____________________________________________
I plan to run a few other one shots after Lighting Keep as a continuous campaign, such as prisoner 13 and the hidden shrine of Tamoachan from TftYP.
____________________________________________
A marauding young white dragon has laid waste to numerous villages, devouring some residents while displacing others. It strikes without mercy. No one knows where it came from, where it lairs, or how long it intends to terrorize the realm.
But there is hope. Long ago, a werewolf knight of great valor used her wealth to raise a bastion at the edge of the wilderness. This castle had the power to generate a lightning shield around itself—a shield powerful enough to break sieges and keep monsters at bay. The castle was abandoned shortly after the knight passed away. By then, peace had settled across the land, making the stronghold unnecessary.
Villagers displaced by the dragon ask you to travel to Lightning Keep and rid it of any threats. Rumor has it the lightning shield is powered by six magical lightning rods. If you can find these rods, perhaps the lightning shield could be reactivated, allowing refugees fleeing the dragon to use the keep as a sanctuary.

😂 That was my (biggest) problem too. Figured I could swing the time zone since I'm on an overnight schedule but I couldn't figure out how turn back the clock quite that far!
Yeah I think I might just make it open to people of any age, as long as you are in Australia (or a similar Timezone, like, idk, eastern Russia or something?), and you haven’t played or DM’d the Lightning Keep oneshot.
Appearance: Gustave is an old fellow and not in his best shape. He has many scars but most of them are covered with chain mail and simple clothing. He has short frizzly gray hair and an inch or two of beard in the same colour.
Backstory (optional): Gustave used to be the leader of a guard division in [insert medium sized city] but after an unfortunate event causing the death of a mother and her child, he was pressed into giving up his position by superiors. Lacking a way of funding his life he turned to freelance work as a mercenary. given his age he does only the simplest of tasks which in return only grant the small coinage. He takes any opportunity to work with others and instead tries to help them carry his "dead weight" by advising them out of combat and using his skillset of an experienced commander in combat.
(( The character is a fighter mechanically but would function more as a support build similar to bards. Using maneuvers such as commanding strike he lets his allies do the damage. Out of combat he uses commanding presence and such to help in the skill department ))
Sounds interesting! I meet all the criteria, I just have a few questions. How optimised/powerful are we looking for characters to be? Also, how will combat be handled? Theatre of the mind/ Roll20?
I don’t really know what you mean by “how optimised/powerful” the characters will be, just make sure your character listings are from PHB, DMG, SCAG, MP:MotM, VGtM, TCoE, XGtE, FToD, and/or BP:GotG. You can use rolled ability scores; I.e., roll 4d6; drop the lowest one. You can also use the ‘Customise your origin’ rule from TCoE, meaning you can change your ability score increases.
As for combat, it will just be “Theatre of Mind” in a D&D Beyond forum not unlike this one.
yeah i'm aussie, 16, nearly 17. would like to join if it's still available. i'll be playing a samurai fighter, flavoured like ned kelly with a broadsword lol. i'll post more about him if i get accepted
p.s is my subclass ok, cuz it's from XGtE and that's not on your list of approved books to use.
My character is a kobold farmer from a unicorns vale, 2 levels shepherd druid, 1 level life cleric. Flavouring lots of spells to be animal companions and using the tasha's wild companion find familar for druids. (feel free to ask for changes is we need something else to fit the party)
Yes, the campaign is still recruiting, in fact you two are pretty much the first two people to apply. Also XGtE is perfectly fine, I meant to include Xanathar's and Tasha's in the list of books - I've updated it now. @tactical_biscuit, you could also be the Gunslinger fighter subclass from Critical Role if you want: https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/fighter#Gunslinger

It would be ideal to have balanced party, i.e:
* 2 warriors (fighter, barbarian, monk)
* 1 spellcaster (wizard, sorcerer, warlock, druid)
* 1 scoundrel (rogue, ranger, bard)
* 1 healer (cleric, paladin)

Well I fit most of those but I'm about 40 years out of your age range. :D

It looks I'm in the same boast as @Damian_May and @groverbloom.
Two out of three ain't bad but I don't meet the age criteria.
I'd be interested in playing though if this ends up opening up to anyone.

I am not in the Timezone but here goes my shot at being the backup

Australian, haven't played the Lightning Keep one-shot, would love to join. I'll just take a little while to come up with a character.
Can i just ask why you were looking for players 14-18 originally?
I just wanted to be playing with people around my own age, that’s all.
I mean my wife says I have a mental age of 12.....not sure if that assists. :D
But understandable, I know some younger players I'll try and send them your way. :)

Just curious if you filled out your group, or still looking?
