As Dastrun readies his Greataxe to swing at a Phase Spider, Qlevvaln drops into a dodging position. The first Phase spider reappears, launching itself at Dastrun, but missing, leaving itself open to his retaliation, a greataxe to its head, killing it. The second bites John as it rematerialises [Damage total 24]. Surpised that the Phase Spider would appear so close to him, Valen frantically released his Fire Bolt in a random direction. He cursed as it spiralled off into the distance, before collapsing inward and vanishing. "Looks like we'll have to do this the old-fashioned way," Valen muttered, drawing his two rapiers. His new style suited him well, as he managed to land both blows. Unfortunately, they were shallower than Valen would've liked. Fortunately, they were deep enough to kill the phase spider, slicing open a vital artery near its brain. The beast let out a screech as it toppled to the ground, soaking the dirt with its blood.

John didn't positioned himself well this combat, forgetting to at least move to help his companions to make a defensive circle and now he can feel the venom of this spider coursing through his veins, burning and numbing his senses.
He cannot stand this damage, he needs the Lord of Light aid.
Lord of Light, Keeper of Justice, give your brilliance and warmth to this humble servant of yours.
Touching his chest, John casts Cure Wounds on himself as a 2nd level spell.

Noticing a Spider materialize in front of him, Chase has a vision of what might have been. Him being able to effortlessly step back from the Spider without enabling it to attack. Still Chase made the choice for Eldritch power. He also envisions conjuring his Shielding Aurora.
Chase remains defensive, holstering his shortbow and drawing his rapier.
As the Spider came back from the ethereal plane, Gideon was ready. The Talon of Terr came to life with a golden red glow. Gideon took the sword and cut upward, catching the spider in the head. Slicing through its jaw, to skull and then through the brain. Sizzling through bone and flesh as it went.
With the foe dead at his feet, Gideon quickly moved to help John, "Are you alright friend, you seem to have taken care of most of the venom."
Qlevvaln kneels onto his haunches, studying at the Phase Spider before him "A strange creature. It seems like it is innately tied to the realm ethereal. Are they common in these parts?" After a few moments, he stands back up, walking back to the star he had been moving before the encounter. "Shall we continue? It seems that if we keep moving we'll reach that area on the map you seemed to be planning to go to before the light from the Palace does not grace this land."
Dastrun, breathing heavily, leans on his greataxe. The look in his face tells you what he's planning even before he opens his mouth. "I want to go separate ways with you lot, train to become even stronger. The stars interest me, but not enough that I can afford to waste time with them. I have heard troubling news from my homeland, and I must return to it as quickly as possible. Time spend playing around with stars is time that I could spend better travelling, and training. I'll not weigh you down with this burden, for it is mine alone to carry. I've been thinking about it since I heard the news, and I've finally made up my mind. See you gain one day, Soolaire, John, Valen, Gideon, Chance, Qlevvaln!"

Valen bade Dastrun a fond farewell. "While we haven't exactly drawn close, you've proven yourself in battle on many an occasion. I look forward to your return." Turning to Qlevvaln, he answered him, "It seems so. We've encountered quite a few during our travels in the area. However, I will agree that we should continue on. John," Valen addressed the cleric. "Do you require some time to rest, or can you continue? Maybe you can ride with the Star, as crazy as that sounds?"
Dastrun, you showed me that physical and spiritual strength can be one and the same, I am glad to have journeyed by your side and be sure that if you need my assistance just send word and I will gladly join you once more. Go with the Light of the Keeper and may Justice shine in your path.
Turning to Valen and Gideon.
This time the spiders got me good my friend, but the Lord of Justice helped me once more. I will travel a while in the cart with the star as suggested to regain some of my energy, then I will continue marching with you, my friends.
"Rest then, John." Soolaire advised. He didn't want the group to be out of energy when another battle came, and with Dastrun's inevitable departure, he knew they would need to be stronger than ever to face what was down the road. Luckily, this gunslinging starfolk had a few tricks up his sleeve.
He nods his head in agreement with Valen. "Yes, we should continue on our way. While these ones are dead, there always seem to be more close behind them, ready to strike from the ethereal."
"A shame that we must part ways so soon, Dastrun. Maybe we will meet again one day."
After a few minutes saying their farewells, the group parts ways, with Dastrun heading Northwest - towards Dragontail, and the rest of the party continuing on towards Whaelrdrake. After several hours, dusk approaches, and shadows swirl in the beginnings of darkness, while the group can see the ruins now only a short distance away.

"Should we stop there for the night?" Valen asked, pointing at the ruins in the near distance. "Seems like it would give us some form of cover." He shrugged, as he didn't exactly have a preferred place to trance. Even if we decided to press on through the night, I could trance on the cart so that everyone could rest properly, he thought, but kept the idea from leaving his lips.
Thoughts of home had been weighing on Soolaire's mind for some time now. While his tribe was dead, there were other genasi in the Dragonscorch... other genasi who needed to be united now, more than ever. With the knowledge he had earned from his travels, he could be the one to unite them all - to help them fortify and prepare... if the starbeasts hadn't already struck the Dragonscorch.
The voices of his ancestors wouldn't cease, pleading with him to return to the Dragonscorch and help those there prepare for these starbeasts. With the internal decision made to return to his people, Soolaire felt peace and courage: surely blessings and signs from the Father-Dragon himself. "Friends and allies. I feel the pull of the Father-Dragon directing me towards my people in the Dragonscorch. There are still some who journey across the Great Desert, and I feel the Father-Dragon's call, beckoning me to return and aid them in this fight against the starbeasts. I cannot ignore his voice any longer, and must obey." He adds in Primordial, bowly deeply, "Wa ‘alaykum salaam [Peace be unto you], my friends. Ila-liqaa‘ [Until we meet again.]."
Making his farewells, he continues on the road north, the light from his flame slowly dimming as he draws further and further away, until he disappears into the night.
OOC: Life is getting too busy for me to participate in as many PbPs as I am. I hope that once things clear up this is still going and Soolaire can triumphantly return as a flaming sphere of light!
"I agree we should probably stop for the night and rest before pressing on." Gideon had begun to feel the weariness of travel so this was as good of time as any to rest.

As Soolaire walks away, the second departure from the group in the same day, Qlevvaln ponders this - such a strong bond lay between these people, yet they were perfectly fine to just walk away without a party. A strange culture in the eyes of the Starfolk.
"I hope to meet you again one day, Soolaire."
You press onward towards the ruins, the shadows seem to have more substance to them, and you find yourself second-guessing what you see - was that shrivelled tree not lush and fruit-bearing a moment ago? And those brambles not a beautiful bush? The road, which you are sure was basalt a moment ago, now seems to be made of a bone-like material as well. Looking towards your destination, you see not ruins, but a small-yet-bustling village, from which you hear several shouts and screams of fear.
Suddenly, you notice a strange sound from the cart, and turning around, you see that John has fallen unconscious, and looks rather ill. Luckily, he was still on the cart, so he hasn't suffered any additional injury. Checking his temperature, you find him to have quite a high temperature.

"Ah, great," Valen muttered, the frustration evident in his voice. "I'm usually not one to trust magically appearing villages, but since our cleric has fallen ill, it's the best choice we've got." Facing the few remaining party members, the elf sighed. "I hope no one objects? We haven't been assaulted by any ranged attacks yet, so I suppose we're probably in the clear when it comes to hostilities." Valen swallowed. Internally, he was very distrustful of the village that just appeared. But the group needed lodging, and John needed to be tended to as soon as possible. The wizard doubted that Qlevvaln would know enough about human anatomy to properly provide a remedy for John, and while Chance may be a Seer, he was not a healer. Gideon was far more suited to combat than the arts of medicine, and Valen himself wasn't as well educated as he would've liked on the subject.
Chance is curious about where Fate is leading him. The departure of Soolaire. Now the appearance of a village and the apparent illness of John, is starting to concern him.
We need to get John to a Healer, I have no training in the healing arts. Yes that village ahead appearing is rather strange, but the sounds coming from it don't bode well. We ought to head quickly there, see what is up and hopefully we will gain help.
And so the group presses on towards the mysterious village that stands where the ruins were, buildings matching up in location with the remnants that had survived in the ruins. The strange, drab scenery unnerves many members of the party, and when the group finally reaches the edge of the village, they see the cause of the commotion they had just heard - a star-like object had fallen into the village square, and the corpse of something resembling a starbeast lays dead on the ground. As you approach, the achromatic star seems to crumble apart, the starbeast (also colourless) following suite.
Looking around, you spot many crossbowmen and archers who's weapons still remain trained upon the location that the starbeast had lay. You also notice a half-elf, who seems slightly out of place among the village-people, walking away from the same spot, sword in hand, over to a pile of crates, where she is about to take a seat [JMS, feel free to post starting now].
