You hear the wind howl as the snow crunches under your boots. You're a mile from the nearest outpost, but luckily, you have a thick woolen jacket under the breastplate you're wearing. As the winds continue to howl, you can help but shiver from the artic temperatures. You then start to hear the deep flapping of wings. You realize with terror that a large red dragon, with a white mane and white undertones has finally found you. You shiver as you draw your vorpal sword, but you have a deep feeling that this is it, this is how you die. Alone, on the icy Upper Rim of Phraxes. The dragon slams its draconic form onto the snow, and you hear, in a deep rumbling voice that shakes you to your core as it approaches "Finally Bladesman, you shall die tonight! The Queen's rule will be everlasting!"
Phraxes. A world composed of layers extending deep within the world, from the dwarven megalopolis of Undercity, and the Elven Middle to the ice swept plains of the Upper Rim. You are a surviving descendant of the people who survived the apocalypse known as the Fall, that happened 500 years ago. Now a new threat is brewing... and the call is sounding. Will you take it?
This is my homebrewed campaign based on my world of Phraxes, if you are interested, either submit a character concept along with a race and class, or you can fully make a character sheet. Races are available from Volo's Guide and the Player's Handbook. I am looking for an ideal party of six, the starting level of the characters shall be level 3, I will select the concepts/characters and then we finish them up, and also I will allow some of the UA content, however, I am not going to work with the UA Mystic class. My apologies in advance. If you have questions, I will answer them accordingly. I enjoy some good roleplay and some good combat.
Welcome to Phraxes, adventurers.
The Recruiting for Stormphrax Rising is now CLOSED. If a slot opens up I shall retag this with 'Recruiting' and search for another player.

FrandalSilvereyes: As Frandal, a High Elf Fighter, who has taken upon the teachings of the Eldritch Knights
Barlow: As Valen, a supposed Human Cleric worshipping the Mistriss Healer, Miru.

Ok, so fast bio: I'm a long-time interest in D&D with very sporadic actual group involvement. I've tinkered, experimented, and designed everything from dungeons to the people and stories within. I REALLY want to get involved, but my home/work life requires something I can check in on every 1-3 hours to progress the plot.
I can role any character, heavy or light RP, and I value honest, genuine gameplay above all. I'll play the wicked, backstabbing thief that tries to steal a jewel at the cost of the party, but I won't cheat the vital acrobatics roll that decides a successful heist vs. Re-rolling a new character.
If you would like, I can send over a brief character concept, sheet write-up, or any other format you prefer. If you have a role you'd like to fill, just let me know :)
Grishkar Darkmoor, Necromancer of Nerull the Despiser Kelvin Rabbitfoot, Diviner, con artist, always hunting for a good sale Bründir Halfshield, Valor Bard, three-time Sheercleft Drinking Competition Champion, Hometown hero
Alrighty, I concur on the honest gameplay, and for clarification, I will fill out the role of DM, and if I need to, I'll play what the party needs based upon what it doesn't have.

Alrighty Barlow, that sounds excellent. Send over a character sheet, and your character options extend to UA options, Volo's Guide, and the Player's Handbook.
I can generally be available during the weekdays and sometimes on the weekends - I've never done a play by post before but I'm itching to play anything. Still learning the 5e rules - but I've been playing 4e for the past couple years so it shouldn't be too hard to catch on - I have copies of the source books so I can reference stuff. I've even got a couple characters created that might work.

Just as an FYI, I will admit I'm a bit of a cheapskate. I use all free apps and try to find PDFs of books, so I my repertoire may be constrained. Do you know where I can get access to Volo's Guide (or what/where the UA options are)?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Characters:
Grishkar Darkmoor, Necromancer of Nerull the Despiser Kelvin Rabbitfoot, Diviner, con artist, always hunting for a good sale Bründir Halfshield, Valor Bard, three-time Sheercleft Drinking Competition Champion, Hometown hero
"Vicril grew up in an environment he still can't completely shake off, and maybe never would be able to. His parents were both cultists to the Dragon Queen(?). Once his powers started manifesting, his parents were overjoyed to be able to present him to the other members of the cult as the chosen of their deity. He was brainwashed into believing all the lies himself. It was only once when he grew up, did he begin to question the ethics of what his parents were doing. Finally finding a chance to escape, the half elf entered the world he has no experience dealing with."
So the character is a half elf Dragon Sorcerer. I'm not sure if the queen is a dragon or if she is still around, but I can make adjustments to both the character and backstory if you think it needs any changes.
"Rammen has spent most of his life up on the ice swept plains of the Upper Rim. He has grown accustom to the wide open spaces and bitter cold, this is reflected in the thick coat of white fur with black spots he has which keeps him warm and camouflaged in the snow. Rammen's innate curiosity is what caused him to leave his clan at an early age to wander the world. Often he can be found scouting the area for threats around the entrances to the (Elven Middle? some other town on the Upper Rim?) His strange nature and foreign looks tend to garner him much attention (wanted or unwanted) while in cities, which could explain why he enjoys doing the random patrols he's tasked with. Ever the inquisitive one, however, Rammen will do whatever it takes for a good story or tale from a traveler, often cataloging in the back of his mind, the wondrous items and places in these tales for later adventures."
Rammenchi Frozen Mountain (Rammen to his friends) is a Tabaxi Monk studying in the Ways of the Open Hand
Of course its all subject to change as needed etc :)
A Dragonborn paladin who has taken the Oath of Conquest sees all dragon kind (including other dragonborn) as blights that need to be eradicated and will go out of his way to instill fear in all who support the Dragon Queen (can be updated to fit the campaign if the Queen mentioned in the introduction is not a dragon or not still around) until they can be destroyed.
A Tiefling warlock with Pact of the Tome beholden to the Great Old One who is slowly being driven insane by the knowledge of that which should remain unknowable. This madness is currently manifested in the tiefling thinking he is a (not so great) wizard who has found a spellbook (his Book of Shadows) that increases his powers.
I can generally be available during the weekdays and sometimes on the weekends - I've never done a play by post before but I'm itching to play anything. How are rolls etc going to done though?
I use a modified standard array typically, 16 , 15, 13, 12, 10, 6, or you can roll. Whichever your preference. Also that schedule works alright.

Volo's guide doesn't have a basic version, but the UA material can be found here.
"Vicril grew up in an environment he still can't completely shake off, and maybe never would be able to. His parents were both cultists to the Dragon Queen(?). Alrighty, that sounds good to me. To answer your question, the cult to the Dragon Queen is called the Cult of Kurok, and it is a cult because it worships Tiamat.
"Rammen has spent most of his life up on the ice swept plains of the Upper Rim. Sounds excellent, and for your information, the Middle Rim has several "main" tunnels that lead down them, and people who go down them never return. Or at least, that's how the legend goes.

Both sound good. Choose which character concept it is you wish to play with and post back.
Can I play an aarakockra (from the Elemental Evil Player's Companion)? If so, I'd like to put down for an aarakocra ranger (stalker conclave) from the latest ranger revision UA. Otherwise, I'll look at something else. Perhaps some kind of druidic character. If I can't play an aarakocra, what sort of race might take up druidic practices in this world?

Sadly, Aarakockra are not present upon the world of Phraxes, however, rangers of the stalker conclave are present, and regarding druids, humans, wood elves (called Nevaldrin in this world), and Half-Elves do exist within druidic circles.
Alrighty, so now that we have a party shaping up, please ready your character sheets, just let me know the following:
Race
Class
Final Ability Scores
Trained Skills
Backstory
Also, for the purpose of this campaign, your characters are starting at 3rd Level, so that you have at least some access to your class options, it also allows you to define your character more prominently.

Here's my Extended Signature!
Hi! Am I still in time to join?
I am thinking in three concepts that could work:
- Elf warrior/wizard
- Human wizard
- Elf ranger
- Human paladin
Thanks in advance!!!
PbP Character: A few ;)
Ok well - I opted to try out the whole rolling thing using Wizard's online dice roller (4d6 drop the lowest number)
so looking at that - it looks like I ended up not too bad - 18, 13, 15, 15, 8, 9 - so I'll run with these if that's not a problem :)
