The talk of the streets and taverns have all been about the so-called death curse: a wasting disease afflicting everyone who’s ever been raised from the dead. Victims grow thinner and weaker each day, slowly but steadily sliding toward the death they once denied.
When they finally succumb, they can’t be raised—and neither can anyone else, regardless of whether they’ve ever received that miracle in the past. Temples and scholars of divine magic are at a loss to explain a curse that has affected the entire region, and possibly the entire world.
Welcome... to the:Tomb of Annihilation
Within this adventure, you shall find terrors beyond your imagination, beacons of hope in an endless darkness, moments of laughter, moments of sadness, and (hopefully) moments of triumph. I would like for you to post your background here and also find a way to link your background with someone else's. Whether you once worked together on a project, fought each other, or are related somehow, either way, let's just work on trying to create a bit of cooperative roleplaying.
Also, if you need to comment something OOC or discuss something that you want a more instant reply to, and do not want to take up posting space PLEASE use the discord (toa2). To place your character somewhere, please click on the join link for my campaign.
Current Characters 1. Craben, Half-Elf Anthropologist Knowledge Cleric of the Harpers. Linked to Yosben by helping him make his spellbook and investigating a cave with Lizardfolk. 2. Yosben, Rock Gnome Urchin Wizard. Linked to Craben when he helped Yosben make his spellbook and when they investigated a cave with Lizardfolk. 3. Gwen, Hill Dwarven Archeologist Ranger of the Lord's Alliance. Linked to Clay when he needed her help.
"I was always curious, from now to when I was born. When I was a child, my curiosity got the best of me. While traveling with my parents, I wandered off and found a cave, a deep one. I explored to the very edge, not realizing I was there for two days. I returned to my hometown, I realized they were not home, in fact, there were other people living there. I lived in the streets for many years, with a half-elven friend, until deciding I could use my... gift... of curiosity better with a life of adventuring."
Quick backstory for Gwen: She was born to parents who never really cared about her, she wanted to be an adventurer when she grew up. She spent lots of time exploring the surrounding regions, scraping up money for equipment. Her father left her and her mother, she blamed Gwen for it and physically abused her. She left a couple days later, seeking a life of an adventurer.

"The hero sought to save the world.
"If I keep trying, I'll be able to win," the hero thought.
But the harder the hero fought, the further the world seemed to tumble away.
Drowning in doubt, the hero could not even save themselves.
Hero, if you still believe in a brighter future, hold in your heart a thorn that can pierce all doubt."
Craben had what one would call an ordinary childhood growing up in the city of Baldur's Gate. Graben's parents were librarians within the city and the both specialized in Dragon Lore and History. Since a young age, Craben has been surrounded by books. He started reading at the age of three and hasn't stopped since then. His favorite subject was Ethnographies of far away cultures. Books that teach us about far away cultures and teach us to better understand one another. At the age of 16 Craben began reading a book called the Tome of Universal Harmony. It was during the reading of this book that Craben first felt blessed by Deneir, God of Writing; The First Scribe. After reading this book Craben started visiting a local Priest of Deneir and known Harper. It was there where he began learning what being a priest to the God of Writing was all about and started joining the Harpers. One of the Gods tenants was helping individuals learn about the joy of reading and information. Craben wanted to take that joy of reading to the far away cultures he read about as a kid. At the age of 19, Craben began doing that and sought out a Tribe of Lizardfolk that lived in a cave system not too far from Baldur's Gate. He has spent three years with these people learning and writing all about their culture and heritage as well as teaching them about literature and writing. During his time there the Lizardfolk often spoke about going to the Jungles of Chult. This was a place that Craben has never heard of and he quickly became obsessed with learning as much about it as possible. When the opportunity to go there arrives Craben is the first to volunteer; eager to learn about a place he has never read about.
The spoilers is my back story which is kind of long.
Connection to Yosben: Craben and Yosben are from the city. When Yosben was first putting his spells into his spellbook he came to see the Priest of Deneir who are known for helping fledgling wizards create their first spellbooks. Craben was there and got the materials for Yosben and helped him create his first spellbook.
Clay was the favorite in his family. He was the one to always help his parents with hard jobs, chores, and dealing with monsters. His brother was sneaky. Every one and a while he would help with the monster without it knowing. His sister could cast spells. she learned from a mentor that his mother told her about. One day, his parents went off to hunt. Clay was sleeping, so he didn't go with them. They never came back. After many hours of talking to others, someone came in saying: "Clay! We need to talk!" He explained to him that his parents were assassinated. He asked to take them in to live in his house. He said yes, but after a while his sister told him that they should leave. They did leave the next morning, leaving no trail at all. They fought together, ate together, slept together, and traveled together. After a year of traveling, his brother died from a monster, and his sister died from a disease. He was all alone. He eventually found a scout from The Lord's Alliance. He asked Carturak to come with him. The Lord's Alliance watched him battle against a trainee, and they decided to bring him in.
So... I think that means we are ready to start; however, things are going to be a bit different. I want to bring your characters together through a common NPC, someone all of you knows and loves. We’ll create this person together. Everyone gets a say in who this person is and why they are important to your characters. Each of you gets to decide a certain aspect of this character. This character is someone who was an adventurer of some kind but perished in a blaze of glory (or not, totally up to you guys). Nevertheless, they were resurrected and thus merrily continued their life of adventure. At any rate... DECIDE!
Clay: You get to decide race and/or subrace, how old they are, an ideal (look at examples in the PHB for inspiration), how they were resurrected, how they met them, and how they stayed in contact with them. Gwen: You get to decide their gender, and who they worship (if at all), a bond (look at examples in the PHB for inspiration), how they met them, and how they stayed in contact with them. Yosben: You get to decide what they do for a living, a personality trait, a flaw (look at examples in the PHB for inspiration), how they met them, and how they stayed in contact with them. Craben: You get to decide what their name is, a personality trait (look at examples in the PHB for inspiration), how they died, how they met them, and how they stayed in contact with them.
Bond: History, he likes to study aincent civilization, ancient cities and people of sorts.
How Gwen met him: She met him when starting her adventuring "career", he told her about ruins he discovered for her to explore. He contiunued to supply her with info over the years.

Our NPC is a scholar, something that will relate to most of us. If asked a question about a topic he/she enjoys, they will never stop talking about it. He often gives the wrong information to the wrong people, so you should not ask them to keep a secret. Yosben met him while studying a site he was going to explore, who gave him some info on that, and other sites in the future.
he died shortly after i met him. i traveled along, and a monster came along. i killed it, and brought the meat to the Lord's Alliance. they said it had the power to resurrect. i took it to his grave, and shoved it in his mouth. that was true, he did come back to life. i brought him to the Lord's Alliance, and he now lives with them. i visit him every day
Personality Trait: I’m a hopeless romantic, always searching for that “special someone.”
Died: Luskan died while he was exploring a tomb. He got crushed by a giant rolling stone.
Craben meet Luskan when Luskan needed to do some research in the library. Craben was the one who should him where to find the books he was searching for. Craben was curious about what he was researching and they ended up researching his topic together. Luskan and Craben keep in touch now via letters. They are the best of pen pals.
Luskan Jones, a wizened half-elven scholar of many years has lived for quite some time. During that time he has had nights of passion, days of study, and adventures of greatness. He has recovered artifacts, strange and powerful, and delved into many dungeons. Along the way he met several brave adventurers who joined him on his quests to recover treasures for the Lord's Alliance. It might have been Craben, the scholar whom he met in Luskan researching an ancient dracolich death site, Yosben, the researcher who accompanied him, Gwen his backup and blade in a fight, or Clay whom he met at the end of his years, dispensing the knowledge of a long half-elven lifetime upon. All of these people stayed in contact with him, and they were overjoyed when it was learned that he had discovered the Lost Crown of Belsimer, an ancient artifact of the ancient dwarven kingdoms. However, word got out that he had found the location and so a terrible trap was set, and Luskan was tricked! His enemies slew him, but his friends were not far behind. They managed to slay the kobolds (excellent trapmakers) and bring their ally back to life. Nevertheless, Luskan decided that he would work more as a researcher, discovering the ancient locations and then aiding other more youthful heroes with seeking out the treasure...
You hadn't heard from him for around two tendays when you received a mysterious letter. It seemed to be from Luskan, but the writing was strange and the drops of some substance covered the surface of the letter.
My friends, I should have told you this sooner. I realize that now, but I am afraid I have ill news to report. I am dying. I know not from what, but I do not have much time left.I have made my peace with Oghma so do not worry. Anyway, my funeral shall be here:
He then details exactly when and where the funeral is going to take place and you are all invited. You arrive at the location and see the body of your friend... or what seemed to have once been your friend. The body looks strange, flecks of skin have peeled off and patches with no hair sport his head. This surely cannot be Luskan Jones, why just last month some of you went on a jog with him. And yet, the resemblences are striking... it must be him, and yet... how can it? You look around and feel the breeze. It is a warm day in Baldur’s Gate as you lay Luskan Jones to rest. You ask around and it seems one day your friend simply began to waste away. No cleric or paladin could stop whatever afflication he had from taking your cohort, just as the healers of Faerun couldn’t stop the dreaded affliction from taking any who died in the past. You recall that over the last tendays it seems many others have fallen, but you assumed it was because they could not pay to be ressurected, and yet Luskan was a well known and prestigious explorer archeologist. Nevertheless, after all of the death that you've seen recently, this one hurts the most. You then stand before a small crowd, gathered at a shrine of Oghma in Baldur’s Gate. The cleric has asked each of you give a eulogy by sharing a memory of your friendship. The time for you to address the crowd is now... what do you say?
"What can I say? Luskan was a man of many things. He was a scholar, a lover, an adventurer, a mentor, and a friend. He was the Oghma to my Deneir. Some of you may not know this but Luskan and I constantly sent messages to one another. I want to read aloud out one of the messages he sent me.
Craben my friend you should have come with me instead of staying in that library. I have run into the most interesting individual. He is a Triton; an aquatic humanoid creature. He speaks greatly of his people and their great deeds beneath the sea. He was completely baffled when he found out that I knew nothing about his species. He proceeded to give me a 4-hour lecture about his people's history. You would have loved it. He also speaks in the most peculiar way. He is always throwing around Thees and Thous. Nobody has said thee in hundreds of years. Oh, and his diet is most peculiar. He only eats food that has come from the sea. I don't understand how a guy could eat so much fish. Anyways, I hope the library is treating you well. Promise me that one day you will leave that library and venture out into the world. There is a vast amount of knowledge out there beyond the binding of your books. Anyways I have to get going. Until next time, Luskan Jones.
This letter was the one I received just a week before he discovered the Lost Crown of Belsimer. In this letter, he asked me to promise that I would venture outside my library. I intend to make good on that promise. Don't worry Luskan. Your time may be up but I will continue your legacy and it will be written for all to read. Because like a true priest of Deneir I will write down your adventures for all to read and hopefully become inspired by; just like I have.
"Ah, I dunno what to say. He's probably one of the only people who ever cared for me. I had unloving parents, no friends really, and no other family I was aware of." Tears start to form at the ends of Gwen's eyes, "He helped me pursue my dream, I was never able to return the favor. And... uh, yeah." She quickly walks away before she starts crying.

"He was my best friend. My companion. My partner. My brother." Clay started quivering. "He was like a brother to me. I lost all of my family to assassins, monsters, and diseases.
