Baryk is distracted by a spec of dust. Gewonnt throws a fluff from his bag of tricks. It transforms into a Giant Elk (2).
Baryk drops from the tree, mounts Raul (1), and rides out, bow ready. Gewonnt swoops in to strike at the mount. The mount tries to avoid the attacks Gewonnt connects with the spear. (roll two more attacks for disadvantage) Barryk Reacts with his readied attack. The shot is good inspite of the difficulty if the range. (You can't Opportunity without a remaining Reaction.) Gewonnt Reacts to snatch the arrow out of the air with his quick reflexes. The Fluff grazes.
An Axe Beak (3) enters the field from the 7... Northwest and charges at the nearest opponent, the Elk. It crosses the field quickly and attacks hitting 22 for 9 slashing. It hits but it's little threat to the Elk.

(What Fontanne is saying is: the roll you made doubled the shadow damage because the piercing damage was green. Where it should have doubled because the attack roll was green. You can fix that in the future by changing the second damage roll to -2 instead of -1.)

"Take any one item. We're well equipped." The room contains every item from Chapter 5 of the Player's Handbook weighing 70 pounds or less, armor of varying sizes, instruments, tool kits. There are also spell scrolls, every first level spell is present (as well as spell scrolls of a level for which a magic user of the characters new level would have slots for), and an encyclopedia of knowledge. Reading these books will grant you proficiency with any one of tool kit or any one language, depending which book you choose. The books are magically infused to allow easy retention, but the magic is lost once used.
Upper Tier:
The victor may choose an item from a magically infused chest that summons 10 randomly selected magic items to choose from (rarity determined by level). Alternatively they may exchange a magic item for another item of their choosing of the same rarity or lower, if the administrator has the requested item in his extensive collection. "You name it, we've probably got one somewhere."
The next match will feature two teams of level 1 characters.
Victory will be granted if you defeat all opponents or... 2... Control Point. Four flags (¥) around the arena can be captured and controlled. (Capture a flag (¥) by beginning and ending the same turn within 10 feet of the flag. You can't capture the flag while an opponent is also there. Remove the opponent before the end of your turn. Victory will be granted when all points are captured or more points are held than your opponents for 5 consecutive combat round.)
The time: 1... Day. The sun has reached its height. Shadows offer little comfort for the more deceptive combatants.
