That'd be nice if there was stuff in the DM's Guild... I'd really like a campaign module or a Khorvaire Adventurer's Guide. That would be SWEET!

"...Debts must always be paid, sometimes in more than blood and gold. But this is Ordo Ursa," Ren places his hand on Erakas's chest, right where the Dragonborn's heart is. "Right here. And it always has been and always will be. Don't ever forget that. Because I won't."

So, I am playing around with Unearthed Arcana's Eberron sheet and I'm making an Eberron character for 5e. My whole purpose is to test out different classes to run in my game and I hit a snag...mainly, it's in my head. I am going to give everyone at first level a feat. I think it's silly to not be able to be a Dragonmarked character until 3rd level, then you have to decide between that and stat increases? What do y'all think? Does this sound like a good idea? I plan on making this a game/worldwide ruling, so it will be for any character and race in the game. But I also don't want to throw game balance out the window.
Also, has anyone seen a build on the Kalashtar? Now that we have the Mystic class I figured we should have one...

I've read a few posts how the feat at first level can cause a bit of unbalance. I was looking for where I saw that and haven't found it. I've considered it but haven't tried it, yet.
That aside, I have a House Lyrander heir in my current game, who doesn't have the mark yet but she's planning on taking it a 4th. As far as the dragonmark feat vs stat increase, well its far, far, more powerful a feat than Magic Initiate (1 1st-level spell per long rest). So, Mark of the Storm taken at 4th gets fog cloud and shocking grasp. Then, next level, at 5th level she gains gust of wind and at 9th adds sleet storm to the mix. This is per the Eberron Unearthed Arcana. So, I'd say its a good trade for a stat increase.
They probably haven't done anything with Kalashtar as they didn't have a psionic class up until this recent UA version of the Mystic, (which more I read it more I like the Mystic Class).
A feat at 1st level for everyone is a good idea. However, I'd also ban V. Human if you did that. As for kalashtar, I've not seen one
That's a great idea...banning the variant feat. I mean, it's helpful but could totally OP a character. Even though humans are adaptable I was fearing two feats for a first level character. I don't know why I didn't think of banning the human variant feat but I am glad you did!

I am fearing an unbalance. I am doing some test runs with a friend at work this week. Just to see what changes need to be made. If it makes the encounters too easy then I can adjust as any good DM would. I was thinking possibly making it a 2nd level feat across the board...that way you're not too OP at 1st level and there's still options available. This would be so much easier if Wizards would just give us Eberron material already...lol And seriously, the Mystic is bada$$!!!! I can't wait to play one in the next 5E game I play. (I've been running for the past 6 months and my game is coming to a close...so hopefully soon!) I'll update as we play test, and I might just make a Kalashtar race myself.

Would you say it unbalances your game? As a DM, it's easy to counteract certain things in the game, but I just worry about the balance being broken. Do you still let human variants in your game?

Well I don't allow combat feats at hose levels, and I've split the Dragonmark into two feats.
The first one give advantage on a skill, and the first benefit of the existing feat, with some tweaks here and there, where I don't like the spells they gave, or where a custom ritual based on the 4e ones would make more sense.
I mean, Mage hand? Why? You kidding me?
Anyway, no imbalance so far. They just get by in skill scenes a bit easier, but really only at low levels, and it lets me throw more interesting challenges their way.
Oh, and yes, variant humans are allowed. The game balances fine normally, this just adds a little oomph to every character. Variant human no more than an elf.
The only real worry there is combos, but as long as the bonus feat can't be a strictly combat feat, it's fine. Having Athlete and GWF vs just GWF isn't gonna make the variant human broken.

Not allowing Combat Feats for the 1st level feat is pure DM genius! Thank you, thank you! I have been wracking my brain over this and this is seriously a perfect solution! We were really worried about particular players who like to OP their characters. Which is fine, I'm all for someone making a powerhouse, but when it comes to balance I don't want other characters to feel flawed because someone built a combat beast. This will work out nicely. I won't have to run this campaign for some time, we still have to finish Storm King's Thunder then my buddy is running Strahd. So, I have time to work out the details but I really can't wait to let my player's know that they will have these options available. It's simple really, but genius!

Had a whole sea-faring campaign planned in Eberron for 3.5. I read the Eberron Campaign Setting and Players Guide cover to cover and the first three novels written by the creator of the setting. I was ready.
Then two of our players abstained the campaign into obscurity and everyone lost interest. I would LOVE to rebuild this in 5e and may do it anyways without materials support, but it would be nice to have some rules pre-determined especially for races (the UA article for races just felt lacking and didn't even mention Kalashtar).

TL;DR BRING EBERRON BACK!!! ...Please.
It wasn't hard to build a high seas Eberron game with what is available in 5e. Though I had to pull general setting info from previous editions. While my game began with them being castaways they are nearing their escape from the island they are on and I'm looking forward to seeing how they go about getting a proper ship and crew. Then going after the sunken treasure they lost at the opening of the campaign. I've got ideas for means they can do this. My favorite being an "elemental submarine" being developed by a disgraced, slightly crazy Zil Gnome, who I'm probably going to name Nemo or some variant. Who's going to have some fetching for important components to its creation.

Crazy! I have started using a bunch of pronunciations for stuff now, though.

Great episode. Eberron got me back in D&D when it came out for 3.5.
Just wish WOTC will do some thing for Eberron for 5E.
I believe people want it.
I just want it release for the DM's Guild, just as Forgotten Realms is.
