I like all of them. I've personally run adventurers though each of these in my years and found something delightful about each one. They all have merits and drawbacks.
What I would like to see is a Campaign book on creating and building your own homebrew world from scratch. One epic book that cover worlds in detail. I've seen a lot of exciting and amazing world created out there by people and would like to see something that would encourage this. There is some much creative talent within the D&D community and creating a world can be a daunting task. But a step by step guide would help those bring that imagination to life.
It a game of stories and people like the tools to create their own.
Just my 2 coppers.
This sounds like a topic for an entirely new thread, that I'd love to see. Maybe Dungeons & Dragons Beyond will create structure and a method for availability of home brew world's here. That would be awesome!

I've been thinking of building a world of Islands where pirates and naval combat dominate. I would love to see something to help that develop come along.

I'm working on a new thread to share some of these ideas. I just want to make sure there is not one already close to discussing this in detail.
I totally agree with you on the world of islands with the navies being the dominate factor. One of my homebrew world from a few decades ago was based very much the same way. My love of Star Wars had a huge factor in this world and I created a fantasy world that was a close to a parallel as the scifi one as I could get. I was pretty cool and a lot of people liked it.

I voted Mystara (but it's Known World Classic DnD version with the Hollow World and Blackmoor included—not the 2e beginner box version), but I also would like to see Al-Qadim and SPELLJAMMER. I don't think the Known World will happen, but I'll be happy with Grey Hawk (particularly if they put Blackmoor in there too). After all, you can't get an older DnD settin than Blackmoor.
I love Mystara/Hollow World! One of my favorites. And so much info out there (which I have collected much of). For me, Mystara could probably be run with all of the current PDFs they've rereleased, though I really would love to see a revival for it. I chose Dragonlance though. Always been my most favorited of the D&D worlds.
I chose Dragon Lance because it just looked like the one I'd have the most fun in.
I would love to play as a band of adventurers who realize that war is a terrible thing for most humans (especially the commoners) and thus begin working in the background and shadows to prevent wars from happening and minimize the casualties.

Eberron for sure. Love the magic/technology aspect of it. Though i love Faerun too. Still alot of ground to cover. Dark Sun is my closet fantasy. Love the gritty world.
I'm torn three ways: Mystara/The Known World/Hollow World/Savage Coast was my intro to D&D via the arcade games, Eberron is just awesome period, and Spelljammer is all sorts of crazy fun. I would've voted for all three if I could have, but my desire to play in the setting that eventually got me into the hobby won out.
Planescape. Absolutely 100% Planescape would be my choice. Don't get me wrong, I love most, if not all, of the settings in D&D. It's just ...Planescape, dude. I, for one, would love to send my players to Sigil, City of Doors. They would love it since they're always talking about visiting other planes and universes. It also seems like the logical next step in opening up the rest of the D&D multiverse to 5th edition. A close second for me would be Spelljammer. The reason being would be because I wholeheartedly love science fantasy, especially when it involves space travel. Honorable mention for Ebberon because of the sweet, sweet magitech and the high likelihood of the races from the Ebberon Unearth Arcana being included.
I'd love to see material for Al-Qadim, Maztica and Eberron. Of course the most likely of these to actually happen is Eberron. I'd be happy if any of the other settings listed got released for 5e but I haven't had official material for Al-Qadim or Maztica since 2e. Those are my top picks and my groups have loved campaigns in those settings when we play 2e. Plus I'm too lazy and don't have the time to do conversions.
Dragonlance, but coming from the DL thread on this forum, specifically -not- the War of the Lance, but some time period of relative calm that would allow people to use the setting without an already set overarching story set.

what did you think of my proposed solution to that issue?

I believe our thinking was fairly similar, in that we're just looking for a period of time to identify with all the landmarks and things we know and enjoy, but then stretch those years out a ways. Where sure, the Dragonarmies (or something else you might come up with) and such are forming and may have positions of some small consolidated power to start, but the world is still very open for exploration, and the novelized 'War of the Lance' wouldnt actually get going for another 100 years or so. I'd be perfectly happy with something like that. I had been eyeballing more of a pre-Cataclysm era with the world in a relative calm where Ishtar is a major metropolis, but not yet the focal point it became.

Greyhawk all the way! I need to run a White Plume Mountain game.

I'd buy an Abeir campaign guide.

Want a Dragonlance first. But more Ravenloft would also be great.

Ebberon! Dragonlance a close second for me.
Dark Sun, then Eberron.
Dark Sun because a proper adaptation requires some mechanics (e.g.: defiler mages, and psionics). Eberron because it's my favorite setting.
So hard to say. I like them all!
Be careful what you Wish for... your DM may just give it to you!
I was the exact opposite! It was hard to choose...
