Subraces, like high elves, were largely unmentioned.
In the Heroes of Llanowar section it mentions that they are specifically Wood Elves.
An elf from the Tolarian Academies could use the High Elf traits.

From remote temples in jungles, swamps, and deserts, the yuan-ti plot to supplant and dominate all other races and to make themselves gods.
I was just pointing out that they left a lot up to the DM to work out. It's great bones for the Domains, but it's not as self contained as previous entries. I'd much rather get fully fleshed out setting guides, like Ravnica, and hope to see more of those for their common core worlds.

Simic are probably my favorite out of the lot, simply because they are so weird.
