It's a new year and a new decade and we've come back from our break with some really quick, NEEDED changes.
First, we changed the descriptor on our transactions to read "D&D Beyond". As many of you know, we are owned by a larger company called Fandom and we had put this larger company as the descriptor because that's technically where the money is going, but many of you were, understandably, confused. So we've changed it to "D&D Beyond" so that way it makes sense and hopefully it'll be a little easier to look down your bank statements and see where you spent your money.
Second, we removed the device limit from free users. We previously only allowed free users to download the mobile app on 2 devices. In the background, we secretly upped it to 6 to see if users were actually hitting the limit. What we learned is that 80% of our users used 2 devices or less; even those with unlimited plans. This makes sense because most people have a phone and sometimes a tablet. 98% of our users had less than 3 devices. So we determined that this device limit was completely artificial and decided to just get rid of it. This will also make it easier when the new player app comes out and there's two apps that users can download.
Keep an eye out for more changes and exciting things in the near future.
As always, questions and comments are welcome!

Posted Jan 9, 2020Well done! Okay, one thing UI design wise: could you guys reduce the leading for two-line navigation links in your mobile hamburger menu? I.e. “Browse and Create Homebrew” looks like it’s two separate links.

Posted Jan 9, 2020Still looking forward to the update with Class Feature Variants UA. Would it be possible to implement the expanded spell lists sooner than the rest of the ability changes? I'm asking because the expanded spell lists are a feature I look forward the most, and it feels like it would be one of the quicker changes to make.

Posted Jan 9, 2020I’m still waiting for the option to search for page numbers. It’s frustrating when someone says look xyz on pg 168 phb, and looking for xyz doesn’t give the result, and you can’t look up the page instead

Posted Jan 10, 2020Nice changes. Still hoping for an option to declutter the spell list on the character sheet by making spells only appear on their own level, and not every level above as well.

Posted Jan 10, 2020For those asking about page searches, you can "hack" chrome to do this. Details are in this forum post under 'Adding Search Engines for DDB'
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/general-discussion/33813-taking-advantage-of-chrome-for-ddb-alternate-title
It's great.

Posted Jan 10, 2020i've not actually tested it on mobile thinking about it, but in theory it should, as long as you can add additional search engines to a browser then it should work fine. I'll have a play later and report back. :)

Posted Jan 12, 2020if you download firefox for iOS you can do most of what is described here. I use firefox exclusively for ddb now as chrome and safari won't let you add your own search engine.

Posted Jan 12, 2020Are there any plans to move forward with accessibility? My wife is a teacher for the visually impaired and has a couple of older students who want to have access to D&D Beyond, but nothing is screen reader friendly. My step-daughter is legally blind though a dual reader and when she gets older it would be great to have access beyond print for her.

Posted Jan 12, 2020First of all I am not using iOS; then comes the I don't want to install an app just to hack my way around something that should be easy to implement in the site - the search engine can only use the page information because the API allows it (it can't miraculously figure out what page number of the print book belongs to which section on the website, you see); so adding the ability to navigate by page number should be a simple solution that doesn't make me install browsers and hack them.

Posted Jan 13, 2020Atheist Amen^3. That’s a truly scientific Amen to the power of 3.
Serious just looking forward to being able to make a decent ranger character with those variant features! Cheers!

Posted Jan 13, 2020I wish they would have someone focus on smaller QoL fixes like this, and persistent sidebar etc, rather than have everything seemingly stalled while we wait for the encounter builder to be finished. Still waiting for a non-concentration spell filter too... that would literally be a couple of lines of code 😩

Posted Jan 14, 2020Two separate apps make more sense though, for separation of concerns and for maintenance / upgrade reasons.
