Chapter 1: Welcome to Tal’Dorei

Tal’Dorei is a continent teeming with legends of old and stories waiting to be told. In chapter one, you’ll learn the history and mythology of Tal’Dorei, and use those details to create exciting adventure hooks for your players.

The History of Exandria

Artist: Kent DavisA gargantuan red dragon rises out of a volcano as it erupts

You’ll explore the myths and legends of Exandria, going all the way back to its very creation. Read about the Founding and the climactic and often cataclysmic clashes between gods, primordials, and mortals. You’ll even learn about the single most important event in all of Exandria’s history—the Calamity—and how the world was rebuilt.

Passing into more recent times, you can read the history of Tal’Dorei itself and the events that have shaped the various kingdoms and domains that can be found there. Read tales of the birth of Tal’Dorei, the wrath of the Chroma Conclave, and even the machinations of the Whispered One.

Planes Surrounding Exandria

You’ll also go beyond Tal’Dorei and across the planar cosmology of Exandria. Learn how various planes such as the Elemental Planes, the Fey Realm, the Plane of Shadow, the Ethereal Plane, and the Astral Plane interact with the Material Plane, where Tal’Dorei resides.

Adventures in Tal’Dorei

Dungeon Masters can find advice and tips on running a campaign set in Tal’Dorei. You’ll find various plot hooks and thematic suggestions, as well as advice on important elements to remember for a campaign set in such a fantastical realm.

Chapter 2: Allegiances of Tal’Dorei

When exploring the more dangerous corners of Tal’Dorei, it’s best that you not travel alone; having allies can be the difference between life and death. This chapter details the multitude of factions that an adventuring party might encounter, and even align themselves with (or against).

Exandria’s Pantheon

The first section of this chapter details the Prime Deities such as the Knowing Mentor, the Wildmother, and the Matron of Ravens. You can read which divine domains they hold dominion over, their commandments, and even what days of the Tal’Dorei calendar their worshippers keep as sacred.

But it’s not just the benevolent forces that lie beyond the Divine Gate you’ll find described in these pages, but also the terrible nature of the Betrayer Gods. Read about the foul goals of the Lord of the Hells, the cruel temperament of the Strife Emperor, and the maddening plots of the Chained Oblivion. A cornucopia of dark powers awaits to provide terrible adversaries for any party that plies their heroics in Tal’Dorei.

Factions of Tal’Dorei

Beyond details of the divine, we have the more mundane but no less noteworthy mortal factions of Tal’Dorei, who can prove to be powerful adversaries, or terrible foes.

Read about the goals of the Ashari tribes who guard over the elemental portals, figures of interest from the Chamber of Whitestone and its hub of trade and invention, and the history of the Claret Orders and its secretive Blood Hunters.

Chapter 3: Tal'Dorei Gazetteer

If you need information on a specific town, city, or region in Tal’Dorei for running a game, you’ll find it here. Chapter three zooms in on the geography of Tal’Dorei, exploring the various settlements and geographic regions.

Key Locations in Tal’Dorei

Learn all about the vast geography and the centers of civilizations in Tal’Dorei, and get story hooks that weave your campaign together. You’ll find a plethora of maps for locations such as Stilben, Whitestone, and Westruun to use in your adventures, as well as stunning artwork.

You can venture beyond civilization into the darker depths of Tal’Dorei, too. Explore the perilous Rifenmist Jungle or seek riches within the Ruins of Torthil, for example, but do so at your own risk.

Chapter 4: Character Options

Within this chapter, you’ll learn how to build a player character for a Tal’Dorei campaign. Explore unique cultures and pick from new backgrounds, feats, and subclasses. Read about the various orc folk and how they survived the Calamity, or the role of tieflings in society. There’s even useful information on running a session zero for your Tal’Dorei campaign.

Cultures of Tal’Dorei

Here, you can find all the familiar peoples of D&D, from dragonborn to tieflings, cast in a new light as members of the varied cultures of Tal’Dorei.

Learn about Draconian and Ravenite dragonborn and the social divide that cuts between them. Or maybe discover the famous dwarves of Kraghammer, renowned for their dedication to tradition often to the point of isolationism. Firbolgs and Syngorn elves both make their homes in the verdant expanses of Tal’Dorei but lead very different existences, while the various goblinoids live amongst various other peoples of Tal’Dorei.

Subclasses, Backgrounds, and Feats

Beyond the fantastic and fantastical lore of the various peoples of Tal’Dorei, you’ll also encounter some exciting character options. There are nine unique subclasses, such as the Path of the Juggernaut barbarian who becomes an unstoppable force, or the Blood Magic wizard who uses their own life essence to fuel their spells. There are also five backgrounds if you want to make a member of the Ashari clans or the Whitestone Rifle Corps.
