The public beta for digital dice launched yesterday on D&D Beyond, and thousands of fans have already rolled millions of times to see that first "20" land on their screens.
The D&D Beyond team has taken the task seriously of helping people across the world play games and connect with one another during the unprecedented times of this pandemic. Knowing that we can bring even the smallest amount of joy in the midst our global situation provides a real sense of purpose, and we appreciate the reports of happiness brought about by these pixels bouncing across your character sheets more than you know.
Starting today, you will be able to unlock new dice sets for your collection, including the colorful 'Pigment Pack' and a fully-animated 'Mythic Set.' You can check out both in the Marketplace. There will be plenty more where they came from in the days ahead.
We are also acutely aware of recent events that call into stark focus the systemic racial injustice that continues to exist in the world. We understand that messaging from companies often lands hollow without action, and we do not wish to remain silent in the face of this. For the next week (through June 9th), D&D Beyond will donate 50% of all proceeds from digital dice sets to the Black Lives Matter movement.
We stand in solidarity with the Black community against racism, discrimination, and senseless acts of violence.
I'm kinda baffled at the rules. This topic is about funding the BLM, a political organization and movement, for the goal of racial justice. How is that not political motivated? Yet comments here are not allowed to have political opinions or debates? If I started on about tons of innocent white people also being killed by police, that we should fund them, would that not be political?
I agree about staying politically neutral as well. Its already destroyed news and journalism, and we see it across a ton of media. A lot of people simply want a game to relax from it all. The option is always there in campaigns to make it political if wanted by DMs and players.
I see people hear cheering about wanting people who want an apolitical stance, to be removed from the community. That they are glad to have political pieces here. Yet that is clearly due to echo-chamber ignorance. I can only imagine those same people enraged and leaving in droves if D&DBeyond started funding the NRA to promote business owners defending themselves from looters.
Though, in some sense, being 100% apolitical is impossible, it can be minimized, which is why, I'm sure, the "no politics" type rules are there in the first place.
Let's try again - DnDBeyond shouldn't be supporting political causes. (Let's see if this gets banned)
It's not a political cause.
This isn't a political movement or organization. It's about stopping the unnecessary deaths of African Americans by police brutality.
It's a US politics, which I am not interested in, being waved in face by a company. I sure as hell don't want anything like what's happening in the US in my country, I like my cities not being burned down. Why would DDB support this?
Love this. I love that you guys are taking a stance and trying to accomplish something positive. You have definitely earned more of my business.
It's not politics. It's about protecting African American's lives. They aren't advocating for burning down cities, they are trying to make sure that they don't keep getting killed for being black. They are supporting a movement of suppressed people who are trying to stop being oppressed. If you don't want to support the cause, fine, just don't buy this and move on.
cyber lord wrong thread mate
Support for BLM def moved me to the "buy" column. I typically consider how much use and enjoyment my new to DnD players would get from content I purchase. And, though the feature is cool, since dice cant be shared ( dont think) I would have thought it a frivolous bauble to purchase for my own use. BUT, supporting a great rpg resource AND a vital movement at the same time made it an easy decision. Thanks for everything and keep it up
These are pretty cool but I wasn’t gonna buy them as I don’t really use the digital dice. But when I saw you guys are supporting BLM I’m all in. Gotta wait till payday on Friday but that I for continuing to amaze me dndbeyond. You guys are awesome. Thank you for supporting a great cause.
keep it up beyond you guys keep on coming up with great ideas.
50% of a sale towards a cause is a lot. I certainly will be glad they did that over not doing anything at all.
Thank you for the clarification, that actually does help our understanding
So glad you guys are supporting the movement, I normally wouldn't buy and would just stick with the standard- but I'm definitely buying now.
I have friends that have been beaten to within an inch of there lives by members of that movement before you stand toe to toe in solidarity with groups it would be wise to research the harm they inflict on others a movement that stands for equality for all human beings is something I will support but I will not support Black Lives Matter because they have on occasion been racist and violent to other African American people who don’t agree with them, they also support the violence against other people who they don’t even know based on race they are no better than ANTIFA. How about you give the proceeds to George Floyd’s family or to the countless African American and Hispanic peoples whose shops were burnt down. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement.
I agree. As good as the idea is, it is not without it's flaws. I am by no means racist, in fact I stand for racial equality 100%, but this is not how we help. We don't break the law to fix it. We don't hurt, destroy and burn. We do it peacefully, or at the very least we don't hurt innocents. So although this is an important matter and they should be treated well, riots don't help BLM. And it will be felt by many people.
I'd be interested to find out how this effects your sales and playerbase numbers. In a lot of countries outside the US BLM are coming across like a terrorist organization so internationally this is incredibly bad PR for any company. I hope your stockholders are ok with this, lawsuits have been started over much less. https://www.wsj.com/articles/when-ceos-play-politics-shareholders-can-take-them-to-court-1503011944
I I don't play d&d to talk about politics, I play d&d because I'm done talking politics. Politics are my job.
No thanks.
I agree with High Five
I read a lot of support for BLM and how cool the idea is...
but I dont see anyone saying how much they love their purchase, or a screen shot if their first crit/fumble.
