The one thing, maybe the only thing, I was looking forward to in FToD was the Draconians.
I would sure like to see an interview about why they changed the Baaz? Maybe there already isn't that I haven't seen?
Why have it turn characters to stone instead of just getting a weapon stuck? Having a player get their weapon stuck was so entertaining (as a DM). Players would get so mad. It gave players a reason to carry multiple weapons. Or to watch them turn the flat of their blade and hit things. Or try to punch it.
It seems like an unnecessary change. If I had to pick one thing about any of the draconian not to change...that would be it.
Yes it will be interesting to see them squirm the 1st time they turn to stone not knowing that it only lasts 1 minute.
A couple of bad rolls could be devastating to a party having even 1 of them out of combat for 10 rounds, never mind more then 1. Seems pretty harsh for a CR 1/2 creature. And the more there are, the more chances it will happen.
I guess just talking it out here, maybe the change was to stop "do not stab the draconian" type of "meta" gaming? Once the PC's learned that piercing weapons could get stuck they just stopped stabbing Baaz. But now even if you punch one to death there is a chance of turning to stone. hmm, maybe this change isn't so bad.
I am going to run Tyranny of Dragons and sub in draconians. (HURRY UP AND BRING OUT WAR OF THE LANCE!) I guess we will see how it goes.
Being unable to use your weapon for one minute means you can’t use it for the rest of the fight. It would just turn into another way casters are stronger than martials — eldritch blast or fire bolt won’t get eaten by the monster, but the first time the fighter kills something they’re left with not much to do.

ya. Another thing I forgot about is there is no non-lethal damage anymore like old versions.
you just decide when they hit 0 if you are knocking them out or killing them. so that turning to stone thing would be pointless.
