This reallife photo taken from the coast of England.
I get it that the air temperature differences, and the resulting gaseous densities, bend the direction of light. Even so, I dont yet have a sense which light is coming from where, exactly.
The reallife optical illusion is startling. The ship seems to clearly fly thru the air!
I suspect, something like this optical illusion, called a "superior mirage", might be responsible for certain ghost sightings and sailor lore about flying ghost ships, such as the Flying Dutchman.
In an era of wide spread, credible, UFO sightings (and wreckage), it is important to keep optical illusions such as this in mind, to remain sober about currently unexplained phenomena.
Perfectly timed photo, it's so rare to see one of these majestic creatures leaping from the water. It's testament to its superior hydrodynamics that the water is practically undisturbed from the jump. Truly nature is wonderful.

You can see a lighter blue area disturbed by the jump, actually.
