I might suggest a damage preventing effect, or this could end up like the first Tavern.

Bob cat? Howe S. Cat? Turna cat? Felis cat? Sandy cat? Tabby cat? Devon Rex cat? Havana Brown Cat? 

Some of those were pretty bad... 

A halfling, small for even a halfling walks in. "Hello! Fine establishment you have here! Could I get, say maybe, a, some green lettuce please? Also a pie. Thanks." With great struggle, he climbs up a stool and looks pleased with himself.

Suddenly, an eladrin appears on one of the tables. “May I have a drink? I can wait.” He wears a jacket embroidered with a spider.

 "Hello there! How was your day?"

My character is a noble who has the stats of a commoner with these changes. Is this okay?

"Oh, well you shouldn't really do that. I'm the, erm, noble type and wouldn't like it if I was swindled." The halfling gulps. "Though thank you, maybe I will buy a few... How much? Also which noble family? My name is Debulus. "

I'm not even going to roll. There is no way he could beat that. He's also gullible so...

“5 gp per berry. 20 berries, all of them together make a potion of supreme healing.” 

" I highly doubt it, don't trust him " says a Human walking in who missed the Deception Check, " Anyway, barkeep some tea please? "

"Su- Supreme Healing! That's rare, very rare. 100 gp is also all the money I have left... Oh..." He sits there and thinks for a bit. He then tries to make a weak attempt at haggling "Yes please! I would like the berries. Unfortunately, 5 gp per berry is too high, I think 4 gp sounds okay, right? "

"What! Oh no! I, I don't know who to trust." He then starts muttering at a rapid pace. "The human told me to doubt the elf but the elf did talk to me first... But the human wasn't in the room, so they couldn't have talked with me. The elf does have a creepy jacket. Then again, I started the conversation with the elf so how would he know I was going to try to talk to him? Yet maybe he was planning to sell anybody who talked to him overpriced berries... Wait, how would someone who just walked in know someone was trying to sell someone overpriced berries? Wait but if he swindles nobles, maybe he's targeting me and trying to swindle me! Oh no. But that could be a lie! If he was selling me overpriced berries that aren't magical that could be a lie which means he isn't targeting me! He's just targeting everyone?" 

Debulus puts his hands to his head, wobbles around then falls of his stool. He looks up, notices the concerned glances and his eyes widen. "I didn't say that aloud did I?" He sees people nodding and reddens. "Heh, heh, nothing to see here? Or I guess listen here. Ha! Ha!"

“Gladly.”

The Human will sigh at the attempt at haggling but keep his opinions to himself as he sips his tea. But immediately his conscious gets to him and he turns to the Eladrin and says, " Those wouldn't happen to be normal berries? Or maybe good berries that are summoned because of a spell? "
