"They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them and in the furnace of war I shall forge them. They shall be of iron will and steely sinew. In great armour I shall clad them and with the mightiest weapons shall they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight them. They shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines...and they shall know no fear." — The Emperor of Mankind
Hello, this is yet another tavern idea of mine. You don't have to know anything about Warhammer 40k to play this, because to be honest I don't know much about it either. A good resource to learn more would be the Warhammer 40k wiki. For those who religiously love Warhammer 40k, please don't be overprotective over the lore in this thread. This is for fun and has little to nothing to do with the actual lore of 40k.
On a distant planet, far out in the galaxy, war rages on. Space Marines fight against the evil of the Tyranids. Many chapters of Space Marines fight side by side despite their differences, keeping this wave of Tyranids from reaching Earth. As you and your fellow Marines stand atop your fortifications, looking over the battlefield you feel the earth tremble as yet another wave of Tyranids approaches.
RULES:
1. Respect each other. Please.
2. Just because you are from a different Marine Chapter than someone else doesn't give you the right to berate other players.
3. Have fun.
4. Stick to proper lore if you feel like it, you don't have to though.
5. Try to keep it PG-13. Blood and gore is allowed just no sexual stuff. We dont know everyone's age here.
6. Listen to the mods.
7. Keep OOC fighting to a minimum, take arguments to the PM's.
8. Post, "For the Imperium!" in your first post to confirm you read the rules.
9. Choose any Space Marine chapter you'd like.

A Deathwatch Veteran, left shoulder pad showing he was from the Tome Keepers before being drafted, is standing on the remains of a Rhino transport, scanning the horizon. He hefts his Infernus Heavy Bolter, bionic eye marking several tyranid threats, and vox's his location to his brothers.

Hi! I'm EJO. I am a silly billy who forgets to play Genshin Impact every day totally DOESN'T simp for at least three different ninja girls. Some other facts about me:
I main Milio in League of Legends, and therefore have extreme anxiety whenever my glass cannon Vayne main teammate charges at the enemy while I'm at the spawn zone.
My average accuracy in Marvel Rivals is about 19%.
If anyone says the words "Spider man lord" in my presence I will immediately lock myself in my room.

*Can I mod? I'm a serious 40k nerd*
*Yea sure! I do need help moderating this. Just really make sure arguments are settled and stuff. i'll be steering the story if this tavern ever lifts off*
Nearby a Ultramarine with a Bolter and a chain sword is standing on the ramparts, he barks orders with authority, commanding other Marines and Imperium Troopers.
The Deathwatch Marine acknowledges the orders, but doesn't outright follow them.
*I'll assume it's Astra Militarum guardsmen as well as the space marines who're defending this planet. How will we do combat?*
*Yes. Uhm....combat...righttttt.....for now we'll make it up as we go. just kinda describe combat scenarios since we don't have opposing people yk?*
The Ultramarine is mainly telling the Marines and guardsmen to hold their ground, defending the ramparts.
*Okie*
"Brother!" The marine calls. "What's your name?" He blasts a group of advancing Hormagaunts to pieces as he speaks.
"Brother Tidus!" he calls back, lifting a Tyranid on his chainsword and blasting it open with his bolter. "What is your name Brother?"
*The 'Brother isn't part of their actual name. It's just all space marines are brothers of some sort*
"Mercius." The veteran pauses, blasting a knot of Rippers with the bolter part of his Infernus Heavy Bolter. "Are you good over there?"
*I figured that much. I just like that name.*
Tidus nods, stomping a Tyranid underfoot.
"It seems we are the only astartes here." Mercius continues blasting the tyranids, meticulously accurate, seemingly never missing a shot. A Hormagaunt jumps on him from behind but finds itself impaled on the blade of Mercius' combat blade. "Which is a shame, since I feel that two Astartes and a few squads of the local militia won't be enough against a swarm of Xenos."
"That is why we must stand strong until reinforcements arrive Brother." he says, blasting into the hoard. "I have a Warship inbound that will rain hellfire upon these creatures."
"Let us hope your thunderhawk makes it through the spore clouds unharmed." Mercius glances behind him. "Our position... may be compromised, sergeant."
*assuming Tidus is a sergeant*
*Yep*
Tidus glances behind himself, scowling behind his helmet. "Pray that it makes it through the warp travel..."
Tyranids are swarming behind the marine's positions, slaughtering guardsmen and scrambling over their own dead to reach the slaughter. "I hope some others of my squad survived..."
*Thunderhawk gunships can't travel through the warp. They're void capable but not THAT void capable.*
*Sorry if i'm being one of those lore guardians you mentioned you didn't want. As I said, I'm a nerd, and a lore nerd on top of other kinds of nerd.*
*It's fine. I mean can gunships be modified to travel through the warp?*
"Pray for their survival." he says, taking up the rear flank. "Emperor give us strength..."
*In the cult mechanicus, modifying something is considered heretical. so, no. But theoretically, if you got rid of the transport bay of a thunderhawk and added a warp drive and a small-ish geller field, yes.*
"We'll need to find a better defensive position if we're to survive." Mercius states, taking up the front and ordering the guardsmen to take the left and right.
Hi!

"We will not give up these ramparts Brother!" Tidus is defending the rear flank, speaking into his vox to everyone within range. "This is Sergeant Tidus. We need reinforcements on the right fortifications. Any and all fighters are needed."

They are my Space Marines...and they shall know no fear."
— The Emperor of Mankind
