Somewhere along the border between our world and the otherworld, there is a door where the border grows thin. On the other side of this border is the Crimson Market, a sort of auction grounds created and maintained by fey and mages for the buying and selling of magical creatures and commodities. Night and day, its dimly lit fantastical halls are buzzing with activity of all sorts. Its dubious qualities aside, the market is the primary house of magical dealings. Any fey in search of a servant or mage in want of an apprentice need look no further. But the activities of the market have attracted some... negative attention. A group of vigilantes, referring to themselves as the New Fianna, has taken to stealing and freeing certain creatures from the storerooms. Be aware of these highly dangerous individuals, and be wary of all buyers with sun tattoos, as that is how a member of a New Fianna can show their loyalty to others. Their leader, a human mage only known as "Mac", is EXPRESSLY prohibited from entering the market, but they will no doubt worm their way in somehow, so exercise extreme caution. We're still not sure what they look like, though... If you've got no dealings here, then the door won't even bother showing itself to you, you know. Everyone who steps foot into the market has a reason for being there, even if they're not sure what that purpose may be. So then, friend, what's yours? Oh, and before you go, allow me to touch on the topic of Yule. As these sacred days draw ever closer, the boundary between the material and the magic world grows thinner and thinner, so the market tends to become more crowded. Feel free to warm yourself around one of the many bonfires, admire the decorations, or stop by the rose for a warm, spiced drink! And don't forget, with yule festivities come yule prices! Many valuable items will be going up for auction at price points that just can't be beat, so we hope to see you there! Rules of Trade (even fey are bound to these, so remember them well) 1. No fighting is permitted within the market's bounds, unless the peace is actively being disrupted, in which case security will step in 2. The buying and selling of sentient beings for romance or other desires in that vein is strictly prohibited. In the words of the queen of the seelie court, "Don't be gross." 3. Mac, whoever they may be, is the only person who may be killed within the market's walls. Don't worry, the bugger can and will come back 4. Food must not be enchanted within the premises, so that all human buyers are safe and may spend their money 5. Permits are required to list an item for auction, set up a market stall, perform, steal deal in names, and make any sort of Faustian bargain on the premises. 6. The auctions may begin at any point (by that I mean I can start them, and you guys can add items)
1: Please be nice 2: You are allowed to play a staff, a buyer, a member of the new Fianna, and even a creature for auction 2.5: If you play a creature on the auction list please i beg you don't make it weird. The existence of this market does lie in the moral gray area, as most fey dealings do, but let's be responsible about it, okay? You're allowed to be serious, but we are here just to play a game. Okay. This is the most important rule, so to show you read this, include the word "lucky" in your first post 3: If you want to curse, censor it like so. It worked for the d--n Victorian writers, so guess what motherf---ers it'll work for us! 4: Keep this PG-13. We don't know the sensibilities of who's on here 5: Neither the Fianna nor the Market are the good guys, so don't ask me who's the hero in this tale. Such things are never so black and white 6: This is a modern fantasy, but most electronic devices don't work in the market 7: I don't want to write an entire auction system, so just say when you buy something. We use gold as currency here 8: You are welcome to make more than one character, but I'd advise roleplaying with only one at a time 9: AUCTIONS ARE ONLY HELD IN THE
~LORE~ The market includes many areas. See the short list below.
The Market Walk Those who don't want to bother with all the complications of auctions need look no further than the market walk. The vibrant stretch of indoor market stalls is home to shops, performers, and even some magical services. Auctions are rarely held on the walk. Various magical goods and crafts are sold here, but higher-value items and most creatures aren't. For such rarities, one must venture to the main attraction of the crimson market... The Crimson Gallery Ah, the gallery. The crown jewel of the Crimson Market. Crowds of buyers pack in for the chance to bid and win, and precious few come out the other side victorious. The prices are high, but the auctions never end, so there's no need to be downcast. Just bid on the next item that catches your eye! The Storerooms Most visitors to the Market never lay eyes upon the storerooms. Not only do they hold all the items on the auction docket, but they also serve as a sort of temporary lodging for any creatures unfortunate enough to wind up on the docket themselves. "unfortunate", however, here, is a relative term. Some creatures in the stores are there of their own volition for whatever reason. Most, however, were just unlucky enough to be valuable and easily stolen. For these creatures, the storerooms are a place of idle waiting, waiting to be paraded in front of an audience and sold. The storerooms are cozy enough, and all the creatures are well taken care of, but the more dangerous ones have to have their power limited one way or another. The Rose & Arrow The Rose & Arrow or simply the Rose, is a welcoming, elegant bar in the middle of the market walk. You're more than welcome to come and rest here, have a drink or something to eat, and mingle with your fellow buyers. The cocktails here are first-rate. But be warned, it's rumored that the Fianna uses the back room of the Rose as its meeting place.
Oh, also, the entire market is indoors, lit by magic lanterns.
CREATURES
This is a non-exhaustive list, and you're welcome to play something that isn't here, but if you're lost, here's the place to start Humans Humans rarely find their way here, but they're not completely unheard of. You know what a human is. Mages Mages are humans who have somehow managed to form a connection with the magical. Some were born with this power, and others came into it later. There are too many types to name, but all can cast magic at will and have a stronger sight for the Other than most humans. They're one of the main buying demographics of the Market, as it offers a wide variety of familiars. Familiars may be any sort of fey, whether they be sentient or not, but more humanoid familiars tend to be treated with greater respect. In some aspects, a mage-familiar bond is similar to that between family. The Gifted The gifted are almost human, a strange in-between b-stard race infused with faery magic. Whereas mages borrow and cast magic, the gifted have been mixed with magic down at their very core, and though they cannot cast it, they are connected to the Other in ways no human should ever be. Some may even live their entire lives without knowing what makes them different. They come in many forms, but all have at least one feature that clues you in to their magical nature. This feature may be small, like unnaturally colored eyes or hair, or more noticeable, like fangs, feathers, foliage, crystals, and many more. (The sky's the limit with creating a gifted character, just run it by me first) The gifted are especially susceptible to being auction material, as their various magical traits make them much more amusing than humans, yet they're so much easier to capture than full fey. Fey Fey, or the most common denizens of the Otherworld, are known for their elegant features, pointed ears, and general resemblance to humans (though don't tell them that, they'll get mad). They are referred to as simply "fey" as most other creatures from the Otherworld have more complicated classifications. All fey are born into magic and may cast it at will. Some possess wings and are able to fly; such is a coveted skill. They prefer to be called "neighbors" by humans. Iron burns the skin of fey, but is less of an active deterrent to the more devious fey, who will just wear gloves. Puca Puca are a shapeshifting race, capable of taking the forms of horses, hares, dogs, cats, and goats. Some puca can shift into all of the above, but nowadays, it's becoming increasingly more common for a puca to only have two forms: One animal and one almost human. It's easy to tell a human from a puca, as puca always have either white or black hair and possess one or more features of their respective animal, such as ears, a tail, eyes, or limbs. Their half-beast, half-human nature makes them a very popular familiar choice for mages, as they provide the best of both worlds. For puca, being a familiar is one of the highest callings imaginable, so it's very common for them to enter the auctions on their own volition. Faoladh You might have heard of faoladh referred to as "werewolves", but such a term is inaccurate. They are able to shapeshift into wolves at will, and may take the form of a human with the head of a wolf, but they're especially powerful during the full moon. Faoladh are known to be extremely protective and caring, especially of children. It's not uncommon for a Faoladh who comes into a large sum of money to visit the market, and if a child (or fey that resembles one) is on the docket, they will spend every last penny if it's what it takes to get the child safe and sound. They're far from savage beasts, but they tend to wear their hearts on their sleeves. Changelings Contrary to what their name might lead you to believe, changelings do not shapeshift. They are instead placed into human homes in replacement of a stolen child (for fey love children so much that they have been known to just take them). Most changelings are unaware of their true nature until they turn 18 or are exposed to another Faerie influence. Otherwise, they possess all of the characteristics of standard fey.
Feel free to suggest additions to this list, or play one that isn't listed, but it is recommended to play a creature from this list

Those who don't want to bother with all the complications of auctions need look no further than the market walk. Most visitors to the Market never lay eyes upon the storerooms. Not only do they hold all the items on the auction docket, but they also serve as a sort of temporary lodging for any creatures unfortunate enough to wind up on the docket themselves. The Rose & Arrow
The Rose & Arrow or simply the Rose, is a welcoming, elegant bar in the middle of the market walk.
CREATURES
This is a non-exhaustive list, and you're welcome to play something that isn't here, but if you're lost, here's the place to start
Humans
Humans rarely find their way here, but they're not completely unheard of. You know what a human is.
Mages
Mages are humans who have somehow managed to form a connection with the magical.
The Gifted
The gifted are almost human, a strange in-between b-stard race infused with faery magic.
Fey
Fey, or the most common denizens of the Otherworld, are known for their elegant features, pointed ears, and general resemblance to humans (though don't tell them that, they'll get mad).
Puca
Puca are a shapeshifting race, capable of taking the forms of horses, hares, dogs, cats, and goats.
Faoladh
You might have heard of faoladh referred to as "werewolves", but such a term is inaccurate.
Changelings
Contrary to what their name might lead you to believe, changelings do not shapeshift.

Nearby, a circus performer juggles silver apples, their red and white costume a stark contrast to their coal-dark skin. A small, mostly empty tip jar sits on the ground by their feet, surrounded by various props for their act.

The performer juggles with incredible speed, their hands almost a blur. While still keeping the apples in the air, they flick a knife into their hands, then another, then another. And when their hands finally stop, all three apples fall to the ground, each stabbed through with a knife.

The performer gives a low bow, grinning proudly. "Thank you, thank you!" They speak as if calling out to a crowd, a crowd that is, at this moment, just you.
