Strixhaven has been released and with it comes new spells. They either level one or two and only three of them take an action to cast, Wither and Bloom, Borrowed Knowledge, and Vortex Warp. Vortex Warp is great because it has been added to the artificer’s spell list and can be added to a spell-storing item. However the only way to get the other spells to be added may be to get the Strixhaven backgrounds. Each background comes with spells that include one of the new spells. The wording on the background is trick and I would like to know what you think. Would these spells count as artificer spell if you took these backgrounds? This is the wording;
”In addition, if you have the Spellcasting or Pact Magic feature, the spells on the Lorehold Spells table are added to the spell list of your spellcasting class. (If you are a multiclass character with multiple spell lists, these spells are added to all of them.)”
Regardless of whether or not they work for the SSI it is great for artificers to have access to more spells. You even get more cantrips as you automatically get the Strixhaven Initiate feat that gives you two more cantrips and a first level spell. The vortex warp spell is great for the SSI. Imagine moving enemies and friends around like peices on a chess board ten times a day. The only real bummer is that silvery barbs is a reaction spell. It would rock to cancel out enemy criticals ten times a day but it was not to be. Finally which house goes best with the artificer? Is it Lorehold with their utility spells that artificers for some dumb reason don’t get? Or is it Silverquill Initiate with their mind altering spells? Let me know below.
Isn't there a math-based house? I would say that works with artificers best.
and... while I don't have a comment on whether the other spells would be included, I did want to point out Vortex Warp is not the only artificer spell introduced. There is also Kinetic Jaunt! Which is basically a lower spell version of Ashardalon's stride without the fire damage. And is also an option to add to the SSI.
So ya, either move friends/enemies around the field with ease, or move yourself quickly without provoking opportunity attacks.
EDIT - Kinetic Jaunt is a bonus action, so can't be put in SSI. My bad. Forgot that part.
