I understand the Artificer Armorer spell focus is the Arcane Armor itself. no issues there. Understood.
My question comes when i want to multiclass, to Warlock (Making a "Skaven Warplock Engineer" for our upcoming long campaign.) I plan eventually on doing a 3 lvl dip into warlock for flavour reasons.
To cast Warlock spells, I may need a spell focus. Can i infuse a ruby to make "Ruby of the War Mage", and attach it to the Lightning Gauntlets, which count as Simple Weapon.
Hypothetically, can i then use it as the focus for my Warlock spells with M components, and/or as a free hand for Somatic components?
I figure ideally my turn could go something like: Turn 1 Bonus: Hex/Hexblade Curse Attack 1: Lighting Launcher Attack 2: Lightning Launcher
Just wondering if im missing a rule or a clarification somewhere that limits this or im misunderstanding.
The Arcane Armor’s gauntlets “counts as a simple [melee/ranged] weapon.” That suggests to me that you can attach a Ruby of the War Mage to either. But it’s usually unnecessary, because you can keep a free hand if you rely on your Arcane Armor’s weapons, even with a shield. They are built into the armor and not held.
Where this could be an issue is if you hold something like an All Purpose Tool and a shield, or another weapon and a shield. It’s not a problem for Artificer spells, where your armor or the APT are both focuses. But they aren’t focuses for Warlock spells. So you would have to stow the APT or weapon if you cast Eldritch Blast, etc. Since APT wouldn’t help your Warlock spells, it shouldn’t be an issue.
Ultimately, the Ruby of the War Mage isn’t necessary unless you plan to hold a weapon or item other than the Arcane Armor weapons plus a shield. And much of the time that won’t be optimal anyway.
