Read the full Artificer section in Tasha's (or the UA if you're playing with those rules) and get very familiar with them. Fortunately it's nicely self-contained!
RPGbot has great guides to get you started (though I don't always agree with them, they help me know what questions to ask and answer)
Search various forums for discussion about Alchemist Artificers, again a great way to learn what you don't know
Remember you can swap out spells after a long rest, so it's good to be reviewing the whole list regularly
The 2014 Magical Tinkering is full of creative opportunities should you wish to play that way (good search topic)
Consider a homunculus as one of your infusions.
Play and learn.
I love playing an artificer. I enjoy that the class has very compact documentation rather than being spread across multiple books. I enjoy that there's value in researching and thinking about my configuration between sessions because it is pretty flexible. But I think it also plays well even if you're not the type who likes to change things a lot. Changing spells and/or resetting infusions after a long rest will help you optimize though if that's something you enjoy.
RPGBot (As with Foolish Mortal, I don't always agree with the recommendations, but they have some tips on class features you might not think of, like handing the Spell Storing Item to another creature.
It can be hard finding a guide that is solid. The RPGBot guides lean towards optimization, but offer general advice as well. The rules advice is usually reliable, but there are still errors here and there and if you are playing the new 2024 rules, the advice for the Artificer isn't updated (and won't be until Forge of the Artificer is released).

Yes how to play what artificers actually can do :)
I got the subclass but what about artificers themselves
Are you playing with the 2014 or 2024 rules? Some advice changes depending on which version you are playing.
