Discussion at our table, specifically for the Dreadnaught. If attacking with their special melee weapon uses INT for bonuses, is there something I'm missing for STR checks other than waiting until level 15? If you're building a massive suit of armour that doesn't require STR checks to wear (basically a Space Marine) you'd think there would be inherit bonuses for STR checks in general while wearing that armour. Otherwise you're basically requiring Artificers to focus on STR in their builds. Especially when you consider that the Infiltrator receives a bonus to DEX checks right away.
Is anyone using homebrew rules to fix this? Or are we just doing rules-as-written and that a character wearing plate armour doesn't have the strength to use it effectively?

You're not missing anything; there's no improvement to Strength checks prior to level 15.
The armor excludes the str requirement. The attacks operate off int. Theres nothing to imply it gives you a strength bonus. If you're building a grappler or just have big saving throws, then you will need to invest in strength like everyone else.
If you need a logical explanation..... despite being an Ironman fantasy, ultimately the armor is just compensating for itself. Like Elven Chain and Mithril armors are made to be light weight, and does not enhance the user's strength. Battlesmith's Battle ready operates on the idea of smarter technique rather than boosting raw strength. Like my -2 STR Battlesmith hits at +9 with a Warhammer, because he strapped rockets to it and knows how to control it. Anyone else using it just becomes awkward, nullifying any real benefit. He would use a maul, but to overcome the weight the rockets would be too big to use precision control, thus still suffering disadvantage.
Secondly this is the most non-issue for an Artificer, since you can just craft a pair of Gauntlets of Ogre strength. 200gp and 10 days of down time at any level.

The whole idea is that the armor doesn't require high strength for you to use it effectively.
