I got a pack of 6 aarakocra attack wing figures last week. I thought they might be good for ToA and player minis, but the default paints on them were pretty bland. I rebased them on resin bases from secret weapon miniatures with a pin vice and a 1/8” drill bit.
Mini 1 I painted to look like a barn owl:
The second one I painted to look like a magpie. I tried playing with some color shift paint to see if I could mimic the iridescence of magpie wings under light.
This one was inspired by a peacock, but I took some liberties on the wings. Since there was no long tail, I put eyes on the wings, and used the rust color that would have been in the wings on the fabric. I watered down some color shift paint to give the wings a slight iridescent shimmer.
Still figuring out how I want to paint the remaining three. I think a grey and yellow cockatiel may be fun! Also interested in Japanese Crane, black capped chickadee, pheasants, and mandarin duck.
Aarakocra 4/6 finished! I painted this one to look a bit like a cockatiel.
5 and 6 are probably going to be sunbittern and a purple bird (per one of my group members requests as she plans to play a purple aarakocra in the next campaign!)

These are really cool, would love to see what birds you choose for the final 3. My vote would be for a Hoatzin design!

Those look beautiful! Really well done on the Peacock's gradient. I look forward to the next three-- Maybe something bright, like a cardinal?
